Rumormonger: Magic Curry Man Starting New Vietnamese Noodle Venture

Screen shot 2009-10-11 at 1.56.57 PM

I managed to make my way over to the Magic Curry Kart to check out his epically delicious new pumpkin curry when I overheard that his employment situation (corroborated by NBC Bay Area) is allowing him to start a new Vietnamese noodle venture.  If this is anywhere near as good as the curry, I’ll finally have a reason to never set foot in Sunflower ever again.

In other street food news, there was some guy selling eggroll-like fried bananas that were the total jam.  Tragically, a bottle of Pinot Noir prior to street dinner caused me to completely forget who this guy was (sorry twitternets), but if you see him hawking his wares, don’t hesitate to eat them.

Seriously, are you as fun as this?  Follow them @humphryslocombe.

Sausage Fest: Rosamunde Coming Soon!

beer sausage with sauerkuat, onions and peppers

Beer sausage with sauerkraut, onions and peppers. By Bonnie L.

Oh dang!  Encased meats!

Finally, some more info on Rosamunde’s new Mission location!  Take it away, Grub Street:

If all goes according to plan, there will be a second location of Rosamunde Sausage Grill in the Mission District by January 1. Owner Jennifer Tucci told Grub Street today that she and new partner Josh Margolis have closed a deal to buy the current Cafe Arguello space on Mission Street near 24th Street. They plan to keep the existing Rosamunde menu, adding a couple of dishes that Margolis says “won’t be expanded that far off of sausages.” They’re building out the bar area and adding some 20 beer taps. The rest of the space will stay more or less the same, including those giant windows, but they’ll replace the existing tables and chairs with new communal tables, tall tables, and regular tables with bench seats. They won’t have table service, so you still order and pick up the food and beer at the counter.

Yeah!  January 1st!  Ring the New Year in with a fist full of sausage (that’s what he said?).  My personal favorite is the Hungarian (that’s what she said?).

Katharine & Ryan Still Got the Goods

Forget all the hoopla about Quince opening up last night.  Who gives a fig when the real phoenix rising is none other than our beloved Katharine and Ryan formerly of Broken Record fame? The two wonder-chefies made their triumphant return to the SF food scene last night as guest chefs at Mission Street Food.  After a short sabbatical and BBQ recon mission, the duo are back kicking ass and taking names.  Everything we had was super delish and we were lucky enough to get some unbelievable bacon palmiers for the road. Score! Look for Kat and Ry’s new restaurant which will be run out of Bruno’s kitchen in about a week or two.  We’re just dying for one of their pulled pork sandwiches! Mmmmmm.

Oh yeah, if you haven’t heard the news already, M.S.F. is now accepting reservations!

Some folks hadn't heard about the new reservation system.

These dudes didn’t know that M.S.F. was taking reservations.

Katherine doin' her thang.

Katharine whippin’ up the good stuff.

Dalva Back Room Closing?

dalva

Reader Dervish wrote in with some troubling news:

Dalva bar has closed their hideout. Worse, their not closing it at all, rather their building another bar back there and prohibiting smoking…

As a fan of the Dalva back room (it looks like sexy France!), I hope Dervish has been misinformed.  There’s nothing more enjoyable than showing up early (p.s. they open at 4) and  filling that space with 10-15 of your closest smoker friends.

Just a rumor so far, folks.  Anyone know more?

El Rio Oyster Party!

Free oysters at El Rio?!  Now I’ve heard everything!

oyster

Yes, it’s true.  Free Tomales Bay oysters every Friday at 5:30 p.m.  Go on and slam back a couple.  Rumor has always had it that oysters are aphrodisiacs, after all – though pervy ole Wikipedia posits we might just all think that cuz of their “soft, moist texture and appearance.”

Get it?  They look like vaginas.

Thanks to Grub Street for the tip.
