Drink of the Week: The last of the roadside mezcal your friend brought back from Oaxaca

Smooth as silk! And how about that bottle?

Wait a second, Danny Bowien’s new Mexican restaurant in NYC *is* serving Mission-style burritos!

Eater NY reports:

Danny Bowien cracked open the doors to his forthcoming Mexican restaurant Mission Cantina yesterday, and served a few hundred burritos to Twitter followers and anyone that happened to be passing by. On Twitter, Bowien explained that they would be offered for “one day only,” but then he later hinted that he might serve them as late night specials at Mission Cantina.

Tighttighttight! Here’s the menu:

Mission Cantina: Danny Bowien’s Mexican restaurant in NYC

Eater SF reports:

In an interesting move, Mission Chinese Food’s own Danny Bowien is following up his NYC Mission Chinese Food outpost with a Mexican restaurant to be called Mission Cantina. Despite the name, it won’t be a taqueria, and no Mission-style burritos are planned: the restaurant will serve dishes inspired by Bowien’s travels to Mexico City, with rotisserie-grilled items and shareable plates.

Cool name, though. Read on.

Reminder: Wes Burger, every Sunday in the Mission

Enjoy this gorgeous new logo, and like Wes Burger on Facebook for updates.

The basics: Sundays at 2823 Mission, 6-10pm, and they deliver to Virgil’s Sea Room and Blind Cat. There are two burger styles to choose from and they are both gorgeous and delicious.

Linea Caffe: Espresso and waffles and salads and being a part of the neighborhood

I ate these three waffles at Linea Caffe yesterday and they were all the bomb. (Clockwise from top: desserty waffle with chocolate and coconut and macadamia, egg souffle waffle with cheese and herbs, PASTRAMI SANDWICH waffle with pastrami cooked right into it.) The cappuccino was awesome too.

Today, Eater SF published an in-depth interview with founder Andrew Barnett. Here is an excerpt:

What’s it like being in such a central location? I couldn’t have dreamed of a better neighborhood. It’s this fantastic convergence of old and new. It’s exciting. You don’t have everything assimilated or gentrified. You’ve got the dirt under your fingernails and you’ve got the excitement of the new settlers. This area is very soulful. You’ve got Mission Street, which is almost Central American with its sounds and smells, and then you’ve got Valencia with all the great restaurants and new development. There was this worry when we first opened that the locals wouldn’t like us, that we’d come across as another upscale coffee bar, but it’s been great, the community has be really supportive and it feels a little bit like we’re a lynchpin between the two streets.

Less than a month left for KronnerBurger at Bruno’s

It’s been tons of fun, but the KronnerBurger crew are moving on to bigger and better things. Inside Scoop reports:

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been nearly a year since Chris Kronner kicked off the Kronnerburger era within a dark, sultry sideroom at the Mission District club. Since then, he’s expanded service to six nights a week (closed Saturdays), all while continuing to do pop-ups around San Francisco and Oakland. But now, the last day of KronnerBurger at Bruno’s will be November 22.

“I never had the intention of it going on as long as it has,” says Kronner, noting that the Bruno’s stay was supposed to be more of a temporary thing, but locking down a permanent location of his own took a long time — and as he puts, “it’s still taking a long time.” That said, he’s getting close on an Oakland location. It’s not a done deal yet, but they’re further down the road than any other prior possibility. So stay tuned.

They intend to keep doing popups around SF though, phewf! Read on.

Thanks for the taste, Tsar Nicoulai!

WesBurger is here

That first one is called the “All-American” and the second one is the “Hot Wes” (a classier take on Jack in the Box’s “Hot Mess”). Both are available at WesBurger, a popup burger joint now open on Sunday nights in the Mission. They’ve been a huge success on Wednesday nights at Mojo on Divisadero, and now you can find them closer to home at Mr. Pollo, 2823 Mission, Sunday nights, 6-10pm. Plus, they deliver to Blind Cat AND Virgil’s Sea Room. Burgertime!!!!!!!!!

Here’s the inside of the “All-American”:

And here’s Chef Wes hard at work at Mr. Pollo last Sunday:

He’s a burger genius, I’m telling you.

This is food

Upscale meat vendor 4505 Meats has a turducken that you can order for $380. Maybe you have disposable income for novelty foods? Or you really like meat but are always frustrated by the pitiful amount of animals you can get in one dish. I really don’t know if this makes me hungry, angry or just dismayed. I guess it’s all three.
