Help Wanted

Dear Readers,

We would like to maybe take on a new editor or two, but all of our friends either have demanding professional lives or bummer senses of humor. If you think you or someone you know might be a good fit, please send me an email (allanhough at gmail).

Thanks for reading,

Allan

I See You, You Pervert!

09-02-09_2345

Last night at the corner of 22nd and Guerrero (and I guess this’ll teach me to hang out at the corner of 22nd and Guerrero) I stopped to take a picture of the moon and the clouds because as we learned earlier they looked totally gnar-gnar last night, when some motorist waiting at the light mistook me for a peeping Tom because I had my phone pointed vaguely toward some residential buildings:

“I SEE YOU! I SEE YOU YOU FUCKING PEEPING TOM! YOU FUCKING PERVERT! LOOK! HE’S PEEPING! HE’S PEEPING! FUCKING PERV! FUCKING PERVERT!”

So after that, I tried to peep on somebody, but all the windows in the vicinity were draped up tight. Tears.

Coming Soon: Mission Minis Retail Store

mission_minis

The word on the street is that Mission Minis, the golf-cart delivering organic cupcake bakers, will be opening up a retail store at 3168 22nd Street (between Capp and Mission).  I tried to reach them by phone to corroborate and get more details, but they are treating me like a drunk girl from the bar and not returning my calls.  Tears.  (link)

UPDATE: Mission Minis owner, Brandon, just gave us a shout.  They are aiming to open October 1st (permits willing) and they’ll be selling about 8 flavors a day, almost all for a $1.  They even have vegan and gluten-free flavors, including a vegan banana cake / maple glaze that SOUNDS AMAZING.

Are You Feeding Your Baby a White Russian?

I want to know why there isn’t an indicator for “baby will get light buzz”?

(Found at the 23rd and Mission Walgreens – Thanks Laura!)

Moon Movie

Drewbot made this nice little micro-movie depicting the moon and the clouds as they looked from some corner on Guerrero last night. Link.

Stack O' Bikes

Bikes and the City was on the scene in the Mission yesterday eve, documented this fun feat.

Nice Clouds

The skyline from Dolores Park was off the hook yesterday.  Luckily Potential Past was on the scene so you don’t have to look at my crappy cellphone pictures.

Home Is Something I Carry With Me

home_is_something_i_carry_with_me

If you like art and walking into stranger’s homes, then this event is for you:

Home is something I carry with me features over forty local artists whose work interrogates the concept of home. For one weekend, two homes in San Francisco’s Mission District will transform into exhibition spaces and the backyard of a third home will be used for an outdoor film screening. By reinventing three homes as art venues and opening them to the public, Home is something I carry with me exercises the rights of renters to use private residences for what we deem public good; an action that can be considered a resistance to the current housing crisis and the lack of economic sustainability for artists. Individual rooms within the homes will act as galleries organizing the work around themes of shelter, migrations, domestic space and memory, mapping, borders and neighborhoods.

Opening: Friday, September 4, 4-8 p.m. @ 3352 24th Street and 951 Shotwell Street
Film screening: Friday, September 4, 9 p.m. @ 348 Shotwell Street
Open Houses: Saturday, September 5, 12-5 p.m. @ 3352 24th Street and 951 Shotwell Street

Sandwich Charm

Plebiscite today overcame his initial reluctance to try the fresh sandwiches newly on offer at his favorite liquor store, Rhea’s:

I cracked today. I went with JB (Korean steak sandwich), Kreftaub (Turkey, horseradish mayo, grilled onions), and Pete (grilled cheese + avocado). And it. was. delightful. Everything about it charmed my pants off. Good thing I wear so many fucking pants.

He goes on to enumerate the sandwiches’ charms. Link.
