“Muni Hulk: WHEN HULK GET ON LIGHT RAIL VEHICLE IT BECOME HEAVY RAIL VEHICLE.”

According to a Pacifica news source I just learned about, the Pacifica Patch, there’s a better spot for “Mission District burritos” than The Mission (Rob Schneider probably reads that, he grew up in Pacifica!). Well, maybe not better, but just as good, and closer, if you live in Pacifica (like author ZZ Packer!). Camden Swita claims that Guerreros Taqueria “offers everything taste-wise as Taqueria Cancún and more” (Adolescents lead singer, Tony Cadena, probably agrees, he’s also from there!).
Anyway, I don’t mean to spark a debate, there’s no reason a taqueria 12 miles away from this neighborhood couldn’t have burritos that are just as good (former first baseman Keith Hernandez would know, he grew up there too!). Personally, I think it’s hard to find many bad burritos around here and I leave it at that (Carlos Santana probably wouldn’t, he grew up in The Mission!).
Co-owner of coffee shop and video rental store Fayes Video and local awesome artist Michael McConnell’s new show Tethered, a mix of paintings and installations, is now up at the Braunstein/Quay Gallery at 430 Clementina Street. The opening reception is today from 3-5pm.

Can you guess the bar by the register? I’m totally jealous of this thing.
On the floor of the 22 Fillmore.
By the way, if you’re asking, you can get to The Monte Carlo for a drink in 11 minutes from 16th and Mission. But if you want to go to Monaco for some gambling, you’re on your own.
Recently Rob from Thieves Tavern, over on 14th near Valencia, suggested we stop by the bar some weekday afternoon and try out some good old fashioned daytime drinking. They’re opening at noon during the week these days, so if you fancy yourself a little too rough around the edges to do your work in a coffee shop you can take advantage of their wi-fi and impressive whiskey selection. Also, if you can afford to drink coffee from Mission Beach Cafe you can also afford to walk across the street and Irish up that double cap. (note that soy lattes do not actually taste good with whiskey) Or you can just start drinking early and find new and creative ways to overtip, like the happy gentleman above.
Bonus fun fact about the whole Thieves bar empire: apparently Dirty Thieves over on 24th and Treat changed its name to The Blind Cat due to the owner losing a bet. Of course people still call it Treat Street, and they haven’t changed the sign so it’s all very confusing. I still think of Thieves Tavern as the Hush Hush, so whatever.
We Be Sushi is awesome. Their sushi is reasonably priced and super tasty. Sometimes your server will even give you a personality reading with your food. Not in a rude way, in an . . . intuitive way.
The thing that always boggled me about this place is the sign out front. We Be serves beer, sake, that kind of thing, but I haven’t seen any liquid actually being mixed. And nothing in a martini glass. The plain looking sign on top suggests that the sushi is made the way that somebody’s mom made. The sign below is more specific. It’s also specifically awesome.
So, what’s the deal with the sign? It’s been a sushi restaurant for over 20 years, did they ever have a full bar? According to a server who’s worked there for a while the cocktail sign is actually original, even though they never had cocktails. At some point the sign was made special for the owner. She pointed him out behind the counter, expertly rolling sushi, and said that the mother’s face is actually his own.
At that point I kind of figured I had gotten enough of the story. Better to leave the rest to conjecture. The fact that it fits that well and is also totally out of place is part of what I love about it.
