Here’s the question! Are the views better when it’s foggy and etheral, or when it’s clear and you can see the entire San Francisco Bay Area!?

Longtime readers might remember Lael as the first person other than me to have “editor” status here on Mission Mission. Nowadays she writes about environmental concerns on a blog called Clamorous Fall (it’s what comes a little while after the Silent Spring), where yesterday she took issue with all the fumes we breathe as cyclists:

I don’t mean to be unreasonable, I even like the smell of exhaust.  I love the smell of gasoline and breathe extra deeply at gas stations.  But when I’m out on the road, all I can think about is benzene, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, and particulate matter that is flowing into my lungs.  Some may choose to buy a “supercool hightech anti-pollution mask” and others may choose to only cycle in rural areas, but these are not really good options for most of us.

While perhaps not as elegant a solution as the Nike Beer Cozy, the Beerdana nonetheless keeps your your hand from getting cold and your beer (somewhat) insulated.  Plus, it’s stylishly versatile as well, as you could go with the classic Bloods/Crips version, some crazy hippy tie-dye nonsense, or this anarcho-punk tribute to just-deceased longtime Mission resident and legendary rabble-rouser John Ross.

For some reason I had a car for a few weeks like six or seven years ago, and I was driving back to the Mission after some kind of late-night study session at SF State. KUSF was on the radio. I heard this song “I Am Naked” and I loved it. I Googled it when I got home and promptly downloaded it and a bunch more Stereo Total. Thanks, KUSF, for teaching me about Stereo Total.

I walked over to 24th Street to get some lunch, and every single business was gated off or boarded up, and crews were removing all signage and painting every single building uniform shades of red, yellow and blue. It looked like Lego. Freaky!

(I imagine this had something to do with this week’s Discolandia drama. Also, I had a dream Bob Odenkirk from Mr. Show was yelling at me about something.)

Is it some kind of waterfowl plucking tasty little oysters out of the sand, or an arm-wrestler’s arm flexing before a bout?

While it remains the undeniable right for everyone on this beautiful planet to enjoy continuous access to tacos, wouldn’t you feel a bit reluctant to accept the authenticity of one being handed to you by someone named Jimboy?  I mean, seriously, Jimboy’s Tacos?  I guess if you live in Nevada City (pictured), you can’t be too choosy.

Of course, Allan says they really hit the spot, and a close inspection of their menu shows that in addition to being around for over 50 years, they serve TACO BURGERS (wha???) along with the classic super burritos and chile rellenos and stuff.  Plus, they definitely have a sense of humor, so next time I pop up here for some cabin fever fun, I’ll have to ignore the unfortunate name and give them a shot!

Painting a new sign.

This place was something that I can’t remember. Then it was a sandwich/bakery place. Then seemingly the same thing but with a Hawaiian deli angle. Then a vegetable market. And now . . . another vegetable market?

I asked Devin if he’d had any kind of formal self-defense training or anything:

No, not really. I went to military school when I was younger, but I’ve always been a badass.

Good to know. Watch your backs if you ever visit Sac I guess. And try to hang with a badass like Devin.
