What sort of weird stuff is going on at 17th and Valencia right now?

Ken Ken cook’s car caught on camera being burgled by bum

The Ken Ken blog has more pics and details here. (They also say something about “Welcome to the Mission,” but I dunno, my sister’s car got similarly burgled in Hayes Valley, so.)

That slow, interminable wait for F.S.C. Barber to open

I’m not hating, I’ll be copping the same pose outside of Lee Hong tomorrow.

Say goodbye to Kelly Malone in style at Speakeasy this Saturday!

When people ask me to describe what the embodiment of a true San Franciscan would be, I simply point to Kelly Malone, whose contributions to the community through such institutions as Indiemart and Workshop SF have provided opportunities for all sorts of local artists and designers to find success in honing their craft.  Which makes it especially difficult to come to terms with the fact that she’s leaving the city!

But have no fear; she’ll be back eventually, and in typical fashion, she’s going out with one last bang:

So, Speakeasy and a ton of generous folks are helping us throw back to swamp jugs and old timey magic throughout Speakeasy’s Brewery and you can also hang in the taproom that we just built out (hence the theme) Here is what we’ve got in store:

- Speakeasy Beers, 100% of sales donated at Brewery bar & portion in Taproom
- DJ Sarah Delush, Malila Young & The Toursit!
- DIY Carnie Games & strong man challenge
- Skeeball, ping pong, cornhole
- COTTON CANDY
- MOBILE Kissing booth- feel free to wear it and hustle. Or
smooch me up in there please:)
- Epic raffle & booth of rad goodies, pretty wares, jewelry for
sale
- Photobooth by Orange photography
- Pretty Parlor & beauty folks doing Prohibition styling, mustache waxes & beard trims so you look the part
- Nails by the awesome Party Nails!
- Tattooed Lady (temp) tattoo booth thanks to Tattly
- Carnie food booths from: Southpaw BBQ, The Voodoo Van, The Galley, McVickers Pickles, Black Jet Bakery, Batch Baking, cotton candy & more
- Bands: Hungry Skinny
- Babes everywhere! I think like 20 couples now have met at parties ive thrown, one getting married this year. As well as endless shameful hookups. I hope this brings more.

So toss on your best 20′s gear…fancy or swamp jug & overalls! Hug and smooch the shit outta me before I go. Come out and have a blast! Im hoping to come back in the Summer at some point if all goes well♥

Rumor has it there may also be a booth where you can throw pies in the faces of some of your most-hated local bloggers to repay us for all of the terrible posts we’ve ever written!  Check out ALL of the details here.

Drink of the Week: Biere de Chocolat, a beer by Almanac Beer Co. full of chocolate by Dandelion Chocolate

Do you love fancy beer? Do you love fancy chocolate? Well you’re in luck, because San Francisco’s most artisanal brewery teamed up with San Francisco’s most artisanal chocolate store to bring us Biere de Chocolat, a surprisingly easy-drinking chocolate beer that showed up in stores last month.

The beer starts out slow, light and fizzy with a faint chocolate smell, but once the carbonation dissipates the whole thing just turns into a chocolate bar. And not a Hershey’s bar, a dark, musky, roasty, bitter, not-too-sweet, fancy-ass chocolate bar. Delicious.  You can get it at Bi-Rite, doi.

Drink of the week is brought to you by Poachedjobs.com.

Black Marble rolling into the Mission tonight

As we transition from crystal based bands to marble based bands, Brooklyn’s hypnagogic heroes, Black Marble head over to Warm Leatherette tonight for some synth driven post-punk, perhaps reminiscent of SF’s early 80s Voice Farm. Catch them this evening at the SUB/Mission venue on Mission and 19th.

Party to help create a sustainable Adobe Books this Saturday night!

Despite being one of the most revered community institutions in the neighborhood, Adobe Books has had some rough luck lately, but fortunately there’s a dedicated group of locals who have been working on a plan to ensure that this important resource sticks around:

10 months ago when we heard that Adobe Books was about to be forced out of business by a 4k per month rent increase, we formed a group to try to save it. Adobe has been such an important part of our lives as artists, writers, book lovers, and Mission dwellers — not only for the books, but for the impromptu events and gatherings; the gallery featuring local artists; the discussions, friendships and connections it has nurtured among us; and the generous, welcoming spirit of the place — that we couldn’t see the neighborhood without it.

We hope to create a new Adobe that is everything we love about the old Adobe and more — with a sustainable business plan that can become a model for other efforts like ours to keep culture, the arts, and small businesses alive in our communities. Come see a preview of our new vision this Saturday.

We’ll be hosting some of the Mission’s finest artists and entertainers:
Reading by Marina Lazzara, Chris Carlsson, Maw Shein Win, & Sarah Wishby from 7-8
Music by DJ Carnita (Hard French), 8-10:30
Photo booth by Shot in the City, 8-9:30
Rocky’s Frybread, 8:30-10:30
Snacks generously provided by our friends at Rainbow Grocery
After donation, complimentary drinks provided by Speakeasy, Trumer Pils, and Broadside wine
Participating Pop-ups: Hearth Coffee Roasters, Golden Collective, The Explorist International Records, Second World Farms

RSVP and invite your friends here, and don’t forget to check out the Save Adobe crowdfunding campaign!

Cyclist vs. Muni bus on Harrison Street

Our pal Pen Pop is on the scene:

Hey, not sure of the details except that the bike and a backpack were under the wheels of a muni. Looks like the bus was turning off Harrison into the depot. I don’t know the condition of the cyclist but the police aren’t letting the bus move. Now there are about thirteen buses (combined both sides) waiting to go in. Watch out for buses, watch out for stop signs.
