Mission-style street food at Berlin-style ping pong block party TONIGHT

Up top is a pile of pineapple-grilled onions, the kind you’ll find at Eagle Dogs. Below that is a frybread taco by Rocky Yazzie. Both vendors will be on the scene at the American Tripps Berlin-Style Ping Pong Block Party tonight at Z Space and Coffee bar (on Florida Street between 17th and Mariposa).

There will also be some classic Berlin cinema on the big screen, and lots of fresh new paddles to break in. And remember the party goes real late. (And pretty much all of the action takes place indoors, except for the beer garden.)

RSVP and invite your friends!

Forthcoming Tacolicious space on Valencia includes Dolores Park-themed outdoor seating area

It’s like you’re picnicking in the park! (Thanks to this mural by Paul Madonna.)

Eater SF has another pic of the interior and further details on next week’s opening here.

Thursday party plan flowchart

Slow day at work? There’s nothing like some visual aid to get your Thursday night partying obligations in order.

The plight of the ordinary brownie

It’s a cute joke (via Napkin Please), but I’m not sure I buy it necessarily. Here are a couple of partygoers thoroughly enjoying an “ordinary” brownie from Hey Cookie the other night:

Seriously, that was an amazing brownie.

Let’s get drunk!

SF Examiner explains:

Mission bowling alley, the Roxie obtain right to serve alcohol in San Francisco

A planned bowling alley in the Mission along with the long-standing Roxie Theater were granted the right to begin selling alcohol on Tuesday after the Board of Supervisors approved legislation providing  exceptions to the area’s restrictions on alcohol.

The Mission Alcohol Special Use District was established in 1996 and prohibits new establishments from selling or serving alcohol within the boundaries of Guerrero Street, San Jose Avenue, Randall Street, Mission Street, Cesar Chavez Street, Potrero Avenue and Fourteenth Street.

I’m ready to celebrate. Read on.

Dumbass awning at 21st and Folsom gets fixed kind of

At least “tres” is “tres” now instead of “trees” like it was originally, but I can’t believe they didn’t address the “Um” part  !  !

And whatever happened to that Juntos Club thing we thought might be going in instead? Anyway, this place with the dumbass awning is finally open I guess.

Dear Mom signage is up!

Almost time to PARTY!

Argus Lounge is just about dead; long live Iron and Gold!

Reading the press release aloud to the crew, I got to the part about the new bar being called “Iron & Gold” and I was like “Iron & Gold??? That sounds dumbbb.” But then Steven says, “Dude, don’t be an idiot. San Francisco: Gold in Peace, Iron in War. Iron and Gold.” Steven wins. Iron & Gold sounds kind of cool. General Manager Andrew Marks elaborates on the new bar’s classic-SF vibe:

[T]he general theme will be a throw back to old San Francisco taverns with low lighting, natural woods, and the primary colors will be green, black, white, and gold.  As much as I do like red bars, we are looking to stand out a little. The decor, which may incorporate that vintage rug, will be casual and elegant, as well as our staff, and products. We will have a cool neon sign.

As for Argus, this weekend is your last chance. They shut it down for good after one last party on Monday, and Iron & Gold is expected to open November 18th.

SFPD ♥s Dunkin Donuts

Our pals over at Ice Tubes broke this story a couple days ago. We casually posted it on our Tumblr and it got like a MILLION notes, so we figured we’d better put it here too for those of you not hip to the Tumb.

“SFPD runs on Dunkin!”

Wo Hing General Store

Wo Hing General Store

The former Slanted Door opens in just days on Valencia Street near 17th. I couldn’t afford to eat there before, but the new menu promises to be more affordable. I got to sample a few items and I can say that the food is incredible. Seriously, try the shrimp. They’re fried and salted, with all the juice left inside. Everything I tried was really flavorful.

The interior is nice and fancy-feeling. The bar is made out of planks from a bowling alley and the upstairs is walled in with reclaimed Muni shelter glass. (They’ve definitely cleaned it since bringing it indoors)

Eater SF has more (better) descriptions of the place here.
