Simple But Oddly Horrifying Last-Minute Costume Idea

Saw these in a window in Glen Park somewhere.

Hippie in a Good Way

We saw this band Antioquia at the Really Really Free Market on Saturday and liked them quite a bit. Then we checked them out online and found that not only are they comfortable with their bodies but also they’re playing again tonight at YBCA, as part of the opening night celebration for a big exhibition about the greening of urban spaces. They look hippie but are totally only hippie in a good way, I swear. Festivities begin at 6pm. Details.

Belated Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Don't/Last-Minute Halloween Costume Idea

I’m no connoisseur, but dude and his bros were chugging this bottle of Chimay Grande Réserve like it was a forty of Country Club. Faux pas! Gogol Bordello were rad.

Those Horns!

Sorry, one more Mazatlan item if you don’t mind. I finally found some footage of this band we saw down there called Banda Corona del Rey. Is this what goes on inside Roccapulco? If so, I’m there. For full effect, turn up the bass so you can really feel the tuba.

Phew! View of Bay Bridge from Dolores Park to Remain Somewhat Unobstructed

I’m no NIMBY, but I liked how you used to be able to see all four Bay Bridge towers from the park. The westernmost tower is now obstructed by One Rincon Hill, as you can see here. Thankfully, Susie at Curbed says plans for Two Rincon Hill, which looks like it would have obstructed the next westernmost tower,  have been scrapped suspended, due to some kind of problem with the economy. Link (via SFist).

Update: Whoops. View of Bay Bridge from Dolores Park to remain somewhat unobstructed, for a while longer at least.

Capp Raptor

I’m no birder, but I’d wager that this duck hawk (and apparent Capp Street resident) is officially badass. Glenn Nevill has the story, and a bunch more pictures — many of them CLOSEUPS — right here. He also vows to keep a watchful eye on the beast, so stay tuned for further developments.

Gumball Baby Head

I saw this on the side of a gumball machine outside Val 16 Market. It is a bright orange baby head with gumballs or marbles or atoms or something in its cranial cavity. Wha!? I made it the wallpaper on my phone, and my phone has never been happier.

Also, I checked Flickr to see if anyone had a higher resolution photograph, but found something else good instead.

Update (Oct. 30): Baby head is by a guy called Paul Insect. Thanks, Wooster Collective!

Sidewalk Swimmers

The Ladder Herald found some fish swimming upstream on a Dearborn Street sidewalk. Link.
