Koozie Klub means you get to show off your klassiest koozies AND get $1 beers!

Now I just have to decide whether to bring my American Tripps koozie or my Bay Bridged koozie or my Mean Jeans koozie.

Bananaman, peddlin’ puddin’

What a sight!

(The pudding was excellent too.) (From the kitchen at Dear Mom.)

(Thanks, Jess!)

Vietnamese-Cajun (???) crab feast this Saturday!

It’s a thing, apparently! The Rice Paper Scissors team explains the concept behind their next pop-up dinner:

Our next installment of Dungeness Crab House is inspired by Vietnamese Cajun seafood restaurants, popular in San Jose and Garden Grove in Southern California — cities with large Vietnamese populations.

Seems random, but like every fusion of cultures, there’s a backstory. After immigrating to the States, many Vietnamese families settled in the Gulf Coast, where “boiling points” or crawfish houses reign supreme.

Like any good New Orleanian, the Vietnamese also have an affinity for rice, spice, and seafood. Inspired by Creole cuisine, Viet-Cajun joints came to be — with an added Southeast twist of lemongrass, muoi tieu chanh (a lemon, salt, and pepper dip) and garlic noodles to go along with boiled crustaceans bathed in butter.

These restaurants are known in Vietnamese as “quan nhau” — basically, a restaurant where you can get crunked. [link]

The ‘Parks and Recreation’-Cafe Gratitude connection

Our pal Jenny Bradley figured it out:

Rob Lowe’s character on Parks and Rec drives me insane because he reminds me of my days at Cafe Gratitude. He is LITERALLY all those kooky, diet-obsessed, culty, overbearingly and unrealistically optimistic, ex-coworkers. Needless to say, it was at times awkward and uncomfortable to be there (and refuse to submit to the Landmark Forum!!!!!!)

Now that I know this, I feel like I can enjoy his character! [link]

Excellent news! Now let’s all enjoy together:

Hit by the 49

Our pal Valerie explains:

Lady hit by bus on 14th and Mission. 49 bus. She’s conscious and seems ok.

Phonejacked and then punched in the face

Our pal Chex was minding her own business on Friday morning when all of a sudden:

I got punched in the face and had my iPhone stolen near 23rd and South Van Ness this morning (around 10 am). He grabbed my phone and when I spun around he hit me and ran off.

Mexican guy probably in his early 20s. On the shorter side, maybe around 5′ 5″

Sooo, maybe if somebody grabs your phone, immediately duck before he punches you in the face? I dunno.

From the ashes of Adobe Books: Adobe Cooperative

Adobe Books has long struggled with rising rents on their block of 16th St. near Valencia. But what started as a goodbye party for  this past Wednesday quickly turned into a welcome party for the next incarnation: Adobe Cooperative. No, it’s not going to be a place to get free Photoshop tutoring. Actually, I’m not quite sure what it will be.

A group lead by Rainbow Grocery‘s Jeff Ray will take the helm from long-time owner Andrew McKinley and they will be implementing a new business model. Here’s what one of the new guys had to say:

“Andrew has run it as a community space more than a business. We’re not going to let it close, but we have to think of new models,” says another organizer, Kyle Knobel, who talks about the need for diversification – like selling vinyl and magazines; hosting popup shops; putting on events. “We’ll still have some books, but it’ll evolve.”

I guess you can’t run a book shop that just sells books anymore. Still, it should be interesting to see what pops up.
