Are you an enlightened cyclist?

It’s fantastic that there’s so many people taking to the streets these days to ride their bikes to work, play, or wherever they need to go.  Of course, this also means that not everyone has developed the proper etiquette necessary for transversing the city without enraging other pedestrians and motorists (not to mention their fellow cyclists).  Luckily, there’s a chance some of us have observed these proceedings and are now on a path towards cyclist enlightenment–a haughty-sounding but nonetheless noble pursuit.  In case you’re still not sure which side you’re on, check out this video to see if you fall under any of the alluded stereotypes that might prevent you from becoming an enlightened cyclist.

Tonight at Noise Pop: Matthew Dear, plus a movie about the guy from that band Morphine

Firstly, Matthew Dear rules. Just listen to this song — probably one of the best of all time:

And I can attest to that his live show is great too. Just gothy enough without being annoying. Danceable music made by a live band with a stoic but incredibly charismatic frontman. Kind of David Bowie-like maybe? And it’s not sold out yet! Tickets and info here.

Secondly, there’s also a movie on tonight that looks pretty good, about the life and times of Mark Sandman, the deceased frontman from Morphine, that band with the saxophone-driven mid-’90s hit “Honey White” that we all saw on MTV a million times. Here’s the trailer:

Multiple accidents on 16th Street

Ah, it’s one of those rare San Francisco nights where it’s so warm you can be out in shorts and a t-shirt at 11pm.  I hope you’re all taking advantage of tonight, because we only get about 10 of these per year, so DON’T FUCK IT UP!  While you’re at it, do be careful as well, especially if you happen to be near 16th Street, because there seems to be something in the air that’s causing cars to crash all over the place.

Our pal Lindsey happened to (suspiciously) be at both scenes, and here’s how it all went down according to her:

At 16th and Harrison we heard a loud band from inside Dear Mom and went out to see that two cars had collided and one was leaking liquid.  Everyone was out of the car and I called 911, but no one seemed to have any immediate injuries.

Then, at 16th and Mission I rolled up right after it happened and someone said a woman got hit by a car and “wasn’t okay.” The ambulance pulled out a stretcher but I didn’t stick around much after that.  The Harrison accident happened at around 7pm and the Mission one was at about 8pm.

Wow, let’s hope that she ended up being okay after all.  Be careful out there, folks!  And remember, don’t blow it tonight!
