Medjool’s roof deck is open for business, legally!

SFist delivers the good news:

The legalization of Medjool’s rooftop party palace comes with a few stipulations. Namely: fewer people allowed up there, a smaller space and no more live music.

[...]

At least one commissioner (rightly!) agreed we need to have more roof top bars in San Francisco, but pointed out the commission should probably figure out the size and noise guidelines for approving those first so we don’t end up with more of these drawn-out battles.

So, see you guys at Medjool as soon as we’re done with work/our DJ party? Cool.

Read on.

Come DJ with us!

We’ve got a room going on Turntable. So far there’s me, our business manager Nick Pal, our pal Cosmic Amanda, and real-life DJ Tristes Tropiques, who you might remember from Friday’s edition of American Tripps. If it’s fun, maybe we’ll make it a regular Friday afternoon thing.

UPDATE: It’s a party in here…

UFO over the Mission

Reader Mat L. captured this footage last night:

Anyone see this last night, over maybe Dolores or slightly beyond? I shot this from my place in the MIssion, and it was inside the fog, couldn’t see Sutro.. so.. somewhere between here and there.

Not enough virgins in San Francisco

[via The Minutes]

One minute you’re eating tots at Bender’s, the next minute the plane you’re on is on fire high above Colorado

This girl Genny, a friend of a friend, was sitting with us last night at Bender’s. Some of us had “The Elvis” (pictured above). Genny left early, to catch a flight to New York.

In the morning, SF Appeal and others reported that Genny’s flight had been diverted to Colorado because of a mechanical problem. Genny mentions via text message that the mechanical problem was a FUCKING FIRE:

I was asleep for the fire. But it was scary when they asked for military personnel to volunteer, and then told us to sit in a defensive position when the pilot says, “BRACE, BRACE, BRACE.”

Everyone’s okay. Except those of us that ate “The Elvis.” We all have stomach aches still.

A proper way to sell liquor

image

A big window, with a plethora of bottles glistening in the sunshine. The folks at the corner of 20th and Valencia have got the right idea. Kinda makes me want to start day-drinking RIGHT NOW.

Also, if there’s ever a riot on Valencia, you know where to find me.

Cannonball, run!

Earlier today, someone tried to donate a cannonball to the Salvation Army at 26th and Valencia. The SFPD bomb squad subsequently closed off a block of 26th Street in order to determine whether or not cannonballs are explosive. Results are currently inconclusive, but the cannonball has been removed from the area.

As you may already know, our bomb squad is known for accidentally driving over grenades. Makes me feel perfectly safe in this town.
