Omer's Favorite Breakfast Cerals

Brainslip brings us some hard-hitting reporting about everyone’s favorite foul-mouthed Mission troubadour/celebrity stalker Omer. So read on if you’re curious about “Omer’s Favorite Breakfast Cereals Of All Time“. (I’m surprised Yoko-O’s didn’t make the list)

Burrito Map

I stumbled upon this custom radial map of some guy’s favorite burrito joints and their relative distances from his home. From the looks of it, it’s a map of Santa Clara:

Her son Greg, then 29, had recently introduced her to the “My Maps” plotting feature on Google maps. “He suggested that it would [even] allow me to map his favorite burrito joints, and I took him at his word,” says Brown. “I had radial maps in my head; they seem the most primal, symbolic kind of map. And yet–here’s the beauty and elasticity of maps–perfect for burrito joints!” Wondering about those Korean characters at the bottom? They’re a nod to Greg’s wife, who is Korean. The translation: “I love burritos.”

This looks like something we’d see on Burrito Justice; I’m surprised Johnny0 wasn’t consulted. Although in the Mission we’d definitely have to use feet instead of miles.

You Just Don't Get It, Man

Aw man, did I just spoil it?

Gonzalo Bergara Quartet Tonight @ Bluesix

Hey guys, I know your bummed about the weather, but these guys play some killer gypsy jazz that should warm you right up. Gonzalo Bergara Quartet are from LA and they absolutely killed at Revolution Cafe last night. They play a mix of Django Reinhardt tunes and original compositions. They SHRED. I doubt you’ll be seeing virtuosic guitar or clarinet playing like this for a while. See the video for proof:

Also, Gonzalo hella looks like Jesus. I don’t know if  he’ll be among the other Jesii today at the competition, but I think he would definitely have a shot at taking the crown (of thorns).

Hunky Jesus Competition Moved Indoors

Bummer dudes, the annual Easter Sunday Dolores Park Hunky Jesus Competition has moved to the Eureka Valley Recreation Center at 100 Collingwood, between 18th and 19th St.

No word on whether or not you can put down a blanket, bring your dog, and sip a tall boy of Tecate out of a paper bag there, but don’t count on it.

(Thanks Laurie)

SF Mixtape Society This Sunday @ The Makeout Room

The SF Mixtape Society is hosting their second event at the Makeout Room this Sunday, April 4th. The theme is “Fools Rush In”. No mixtape required to attend, but if you want to leave with one you gotta bring one. There will be prizes for the best track listing and artwork.

Get to work! You only have four days to comb through Thrift Town for a casette recorder and figure out how to cleverly work in Da Brat’s Funkafied into the mix.

  • The Makeout Room on 22nd b/t Mission and Valencia

I Really Can't Stop Thinking About Bill Paxton Pinball

Ever since since DIY/nerd hero Ben Heckendorn‘s Pinball Tribute to Bill Paxton popped up in my reader, I can’t stop thinking about it. It’s amazing. It’s a masterpiece. I want nothing more than to have this in lieu of Elvis Pinball at the Uptown. Maybe we’ll start a fundraiser to buy this sucker.

Folks, it has a motorized self-crushing Hamm’s can:

Desecrate Your Body, Get Free Burritos For Life

Victoria K. sent us word of this story in the Wall Street Journal.

In 1999, the Mission’s Casa Sanchez offered free lunch for life for customers who got tatt’ed up with the restaurant’s iconic Dr. Strangelove-inspired mascot. The media caught wind of the offer and facing potential financial ruin, they capped the promotion.

Well, if you weren’t one of the lucky 50 people that got in before the bust, it’s on again. Ms. Sanchez says it’s a ‘recession special’. Get your ass down to Black and Blue now and beat the rush.
