More Neighborhood Naming

Johnny0 has alerted me that Eddo of herrachinky is the Kim Peek of naming SF neighborhoods. Don’t believe me? Check out these masterpieces from his twitter:

  • DUCFOP (Down Under Central Freeway Overpass)
  • HayBro (Hayes Broderick)
  • SLUM (South of Lower Upper Market)
  • FerBu (Ferry Building)
  • Castr8teenth (Castro 18th)
  • MissCapCha (Mission Capp Chavez)
  • CliChé (Clipper Church Chenery)

If there’s one thing worthwhile to include in the Library Of Congress, this is it.

SoCha? Nuh-uh!

Local blogs are aflutter with this South of Chavez / SoCha thing and how it makes us all sick to our stomachs. Doye, we blew chunks about this ages ago. Instead of complaining, why not come up with something better?

Burrito Justice has already proposed La Lengua because hey, it looks like a big-ass tongue. This has been a solid choice since its inception in November, but I think brainslip is on to something with these suggestions:

ValEndcia – End of Valencia.

TriCirRoc – El Triangulo Circa Roccapulco.

NoJo (“noho”) – Area in the vicinity of gap found on San Jose Ave between 27th St and 26th St (owned by the Salvation Army) where no pedestrian or vehicular passage is permitted.

See the other 7 proposals here.

Mission Street Food Restaurant Hits Goal

With 22 days left, Mission Street Food hit their $10,000 investment goal. Looks like their full-time charitable restaurant is going to become a reality! Congrats to Anthony Myint.

The $10,00 goes to their initial equipment purchases, but they could still use more support and you can still donate through kickstarter. Your donation goes towards a gift certificate at the restaurant when it opens.

Actual San Franciscan Went To That 'Mission Dolores Bar' in NYC

40 going on 28 made it out to the Mission Dolores Bar in NYC, and his review: “actually a cool place,” though lacking in a certain vendor authenticity.

If you want to hear more about his trip to NYC read on, and be prepared for some painful truths like:

I hate it when people compare New York to SF, because it’s totally not fair and NYC has 13 million people and a lot more land mass and Donald Trump and all we have is 49 square miles and Dolores Park and Frank Chu, but I can’t help it. New York is fucking awesome.

The Tens Takes You Inside The Armory

As we found out earlier this week, the free friday tours of the Kink.com Armory are booked up until the fall so it’s going to be a while until we’ll get see all the glorious historical significance inside. Luckily for you, tonight our favorite DSLR-slinger from the Tens somehow got some kind of private tour with his “company”, which I can only assume is a custom power-tool supplier.

Anyway, he snapped this gem and a handful of pictures of good clean adult fun. Check out the full set on the Tens:

Jealous? I am. When I tried to flex my dubious, “Uhh, is there a press guest list? I kinda sorta write for a local blog” card, it fell on deaf ears at the Armory. But who could blame them? They don’t really need the press and we are but a humble blog that has recently been rewarded for pictures of public shitting. On the other hand, a significant portion of our traffic comes from dudes googling Sasha Grey, so maybe it would be good for business?

Well, if you change your mind, Kink.com, you know where to find us.

Update: Brizz posted more pics, including Johnny Five with some, umm, upgrades, on Uptown Almanac.

Free Kink.com Armory Tour This Friday

If you’re like me, you love Moorish architecture and you’re really interested in the historical significance of the Armory. Imagine finally being able to  see inside the same walls that housed the weapons of the U.S. National Guard from 1912-1914! I wonder there’s still evidence of it’s role as a rallying point for the 1934 San Francisco General Strike (an event known as “Bloody Thursday”).

Well Friday is our lucky day because according to flavorpill, there’s a free tour of the Armory! It starts at 4:30pm and it’s an hour long.

(They film people fucking in there too)

Update: Ok, brownpapertickets says it’s sold out. But then again, it’s said that for as long as I can remember and I’ve tried to get the tour several times in the past year. Anyone get a ticket? In the meantime, I’m checking with them to make sure. Stay tuned.

Update 2: NO ARMORY TOUR FOR YOU:

Ever since being written up in the Bay Guardian as the best free tour of an adult entertainment company, we have been inundated wiuth tour requests. We are in fact sold out till Sept of this year. Thank you for your interest.

Hard Kora

Last Wednesday at Michael Abraham Jazz Session, this Kora player showed up! Anyone know him? Check out this video of him doing his thing in glorious iPhonevision:

It sounds like there are angels in that gourd. The Kora is probably my favorite African harp/lute instrument that is fashioned out of a calabash. What’s yours?

Mike Abraham is also probably one of the baddest guitarists I’ve ever seen in any style. You never know who will pop in at his jam. Head over to Amnesia tomorrow at 10pm to check it out. I’ve got my fingers crossed that a jazz hand-farter will show up.
