Creativity Explored Art Sale

I know you already read SFist, but I want to mention this anyway. Creativity Explored‘s Annual Holiday Sale starts tonight and runs weekends through 12/23. They’re at 3245 16th Street, between Dolores and Guerrero. So you can get a slice at Deja Vu afterwards. Anyway, check it out, it’s good stuff. I have a few pieces from years past.

Here are some images grabbed from Flickr to give you an idea of their artists’ work.

Yotopia Update

Yotopia, The Y Is For Yogurt
A while ago Kevin wrote about the new frozen yogurt place on 22nd Street near Valencia, Yotopia. That post generated some interest. (remember Zinzin? Where did he go? Is he using a different name here now?)

I stopped in last week to sample some flavors and chat with the owner, George. Their flavors change every week. The night I was there they had peach, banana, peanut butter and plain.  All the yogurt is made with Strauss organic milk, (because they’re “local and high quality”) and it has an interesting texture to it. A bit gritty. George says this is because they use milk, not powder. He says this is what it would taste like if you froze your own yogurt.

Speaking of George, who declined to provide a last name, he’s been in the area for 35 years. He used to own the Majestic Market, serving former San Quentin cons back in the 60′s and 70′s. He had been thinking about a frozen yogurt shop, and when the space opened up he decided to give it a shot. The store is family run and he’s willing to stay open late if the people want it.

Anyway, I don’t really have much to say in terms of the flavor or quality, I don’t eat very much dairy. I asked George if he had considered dairy-free fro-yo. He said he’s thinking about trying a coconut milk version. You can read what other people think on Yelp.

Recover Your Thoughts

Dog Eared

I don’t want to distract you from Buy Nothing Day (this Friday, as if you didn’t know), but I bought something that I think is worth mentioning. Dog Eared Books carries these little sketchbooks/journals made by a person called Doug, of Recover Your Thoughts. They’ve got hard covers taken from discarded library books, are spiral bound and contain blank paper discarded from print shops. Meaning, basically, that they’re mostly made of trash. They occasionally have a few pages from the original book scattered throughout.

Anyway, I think they’re a great idea. Here’s the one I got:
A Small White Scar

And, sorry, but here’s one more picture I took while I was at Dog Eared, looking through their cool window art:

Across The Mission

Troy Holden, photographer from the supergroup Caliber and formerly Plug 1 (I can stop saying that now, right?) has really been tearing it up lately and before Brittney can . . . okay, never mind, she already posted this, but I still wanted to put it up. It’s a view of our neighborhood, and I get to do that. Just look at it for a moment, please. It’s amazing.
At This Hour Of The Day
I usually only put up my own pics, but even my ego’s not large enough to hold this one back.

Sidewalk Issues

X-Men Evidence?
First they had the dots. Then the dots and X’s. Then the dots and X’s and circles.

There’s a system here that I’m not totally sure about. But maybe that’s just me. How far can this go?

Burnt Food On Valencia Tonight

Burnt Food
6 (six) fire trucks came out for this event. Nobody ate anything. No injuries. I did hear some helpful tips, though. I’m summarizing them below.

Please be careful when you’re cooking your food. If you burn it, there could be trouble.

Seen today on 22nd Street near Bartlett. I seem to be working on some kind of collection here. Does anyone else care to contribute?
