This year’s Indie Mart includes usual Indie Mart goodness plus Ty Segall jamming with a bunch of little kids

And it all goes down this Sunday. Here’s the deal:

We’re FINALLY back after a long winter break for a full Indie Mart Street Fair complete with 110 vendors, all day music festival (did we mention Ty Segall jamming with the SF Rock Project kids!), DIY galore, food, drink, cheap beers, foxy eye candy, a dance party afterwards & more! We’re so proud to be turning 5 this year- still repping truly local, up & coming rad vendors & makers and showcasing the best in DIY culture from every aspect (makers, music, food & more). No big venues with sponsored lounges, no vendors from outside of CA, no attitude and just a bunch of fun, wether you want to shop, drink, eat, party, people watch or all of the above. We cant believe its already 5 years…all from lil beginnings in my teeny mission yard♥

Read on for full details (including bands’ set times). RSVP and invite your friends!

The first Sunday Streets parklet wedding!

You may know from ‘Deep from his alter ego Trikeasaurus, or his residential parklet occupied by a topiary triceratops. Well, here’s yet another notch on his resume of heartwarming neighborhood quirks: ‘Deep is getting hitched today at noon, during Sunday Streets, in his parklet! (And I hear they’re giving out cupcakes to passersby.)

For schedules and more information, check out Kim and ‘Deep’s wedding Tumblr. And did I mention that today is Sunday Streets?

Mission Vegan: SF Vegan Drinks tonight!

The fine folks at VegNews are holding their monthly SF Vegan Drinks happy hour at Dr. Teeth tonight. The menu looks amazing, but fried beets seem kind of weird. But damn, they’ll have vegan piña coladas! And lots of other fried goodness!

I’ve only been to SF Vegan Drinks once and that was way back when it was at Martuni’s. I don’t remember there being any food, but the drink special was some sort of orange creamsicle martini thing. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but holy hangover hell. Anyways, I will try and make it out to a Vegan Drinks at Dr. Teeth one of these days…but not tonight! Yeah, I’m a shitty vegan.

Friendly take over of the Asian Art Museum

Here’s a great chance to get out of the Mission! Space Bi, a “pop-up, parasitic, and unauthorized contemporary art center” will be infesting and completely inhabiting the Asian Art Museum this Thursday, July 26th from 5-9pm.

It sounds pretty fun:

As a forum for alternative programming, Spacebi reimagines the museum as a collective artist studio. Be a part of Spacebi, create new artworks, and join us for the “official” celebration of a year worth of artist projects, creative collaborations, and off-the-record experiments all inspired by the Asian. COME PLAY!

CONTEST: Win tickets to a ping pong party and a punk show at El Rio this Saturday!

Two big-ticket parties at El Rio on one big-ticket date!

First there’s the triumphant return of American Tripps to the Mission, which we mentioned yesterday. And then stick around as the sun starts to set for a thrilling night of distortion-drenched punk rock courtesy of AlaricCrimson Scarlet, and my band La Corde!  This is going to be our only show of the summer, so don’t say I didn’t warn you when you’re suffering from withdrawal sometime in September.  Also, it’s going to be Alaric’s last show for a looooooong time, as they are taking a break to write and record a new record.  Oh, and DJ Brown Amy from Hard French will be spinning records in between sets! Check out the details and tell your friends about it here.

Oh, and I almost forgot about the best part: We’re offering 2 FREE tickets to BOTH events for whoever can come up with the best story in the comments about the craziest punk rock show they ever attended, whether it happened at 924 Gilman, ABC No Rio, or even your mom’s basement. The contest ends at noon on Friday, and winners will be judged on merit.

See you there!

Literary meetup at the Make-Out Room this Saturday!

This Saturday, the Believer and Tumblr are throwing a reading/party/meetup at the Make-Out Room. The reading includes a book launch by Sheila Heti and readings from several Tumblr writers, including our pals Melissa and Mills (and possibly Mills’ dogs). Party starts at 6pm!
