Hear Jonathan Richman celebrate the life and music of Lou Reed this Sunday on Radio Valencia

And it’s on Lou Reed’s actual birthday! Here’s the deal:

Jonathan Richman is coming on Wax! Crackle! Pop! and we’re dedicating two hours to Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground. Lou would have turned 72 on March 2. It’s well known that the Velvets were a huge influence on Jonathan and The Modern Lovers. We’ll play some of our favorite VU songs and chat about Lou and the immense legacy he left behind.

Sounds killer! Tune in this Sunday, 10-midnight: radiovalencia.fm

More Dolores Park renovations mean more Dolores Park closures

Saturday, March 1, 2014. That’s tomorrow.

Today (rainy, rainy today) is your last chance to enjoy classic “hipster hill” (aka “tallboy terrace”) before it’s closed and razed and slowly renovated over a period of many months. Where will all the tallboys go?

Biographical Info:

"I joked that living in the Mission would be the end of me. And there were nights where it felt like the case.

One night I went out with my friend Allan to the bar that no one goes to on 16th Street, where I lost half my drink and money on the dance floor. Later we skated down 16th to Evelyn Lee, where I fell off my board and landed on my head as the 22 bus sped past behind me. A sobering moment. At the bar, I sulked and nursed my wounds until Allan put on Amy Winehouse’s 'Valerie.' We danced, he dipped me, and I felt better."
