Tonight: We All Live Here SF

Julie Michelle’s awesome project I Live Here: SF gets put where it belongs tonight, in a gallery*. As you probably know, she’s been photographing various people around San Francisco, telling their stories visually, and then letting them tell their own stories in words.

It sounds like she’s been working her tuchus off at nearby Dickerman Prints to make sure all the prints are just right. Come by SOMArts (934 Brannan St.) tonight between 6 and 9pm to see Julie in person. Artist’s talk is at 6:15, so you may want to go straight from work.

*That’s right. Torn off the internet and put up on gallery walls, where important stuff goes. Oh, you think your little tweets belong on the walls of the Louvre? Nope. They belong in the garbage. Sorry, but it had to be said. Tweet that.

Election Day!

Whew. That was a lot of fun last night and also way too crazy at the end. We hope everyone finds themselves this morning, because now we’ve gotta vote! If you’re still undecided The SF Appeal posted some handy voting guides that Matt Baume put together. If you need to find your polling place, go here and enter your address in the upper right corner.

We’ve got Sit/Lie, pot legality, a new governator, Board of Soup, all kinds of big ones. Go work it out!

Halloween At The Secret Alley – For Real!

Okay. This is it. Since Halloween is this Sunday it’s kind of like having three solid Halloweens, starting tonight. The Secret Alley plans to open its spooky doors for all three.

Tonight we’ll be showing hours of your favorite animated halloween specials, including “Betty Boop’s Hallowe’en Party” (1933), “Hyde and Go Tweet”, “Lonesome Ghost” (1937), “The Fat Albert Halloween Special” and a bunch more. Stop by and hang a bit.

Saturday you can enter our costume contest when you come to listen to Surf Cinema, T.I.T.S., The Four Eyes, The Pyronauts and The Bananas! You have to come through the haunted laboratory to get there.

Finally, on Halloween proper, bring the little kids by for trick or treating! Yeah, it’s Capp Street, but still.

The Secret Alley is at 180 Capp Street, near 17th.

Theatre Review – Habibi

Fellow theatre enthusiast Katie Cruz and I recently attended a press showing of Intersection for the Arts and Campo Santo‘s newest play, Habibi, running now through November 7th. Both of us are big theatre people (you can tell by the way I spell “theatre”!) and would love to encourage more people our age (70 and under) to actually go see live performances. In the Bay Area we have all kinds of great companies and houses, including Intersection, ACT, Shotgun Players, Berkeley Rep, etc.

To begin reviewing plays, Katie and I had to come up with our rating system. First we came up with a lot of funny jokes that weren’t actually that funny and not very useful, then we came up with a system (shown below) that rates plays on a five part scale.

Hopefully that’s helpful. Anyway, on to our reviews:
