The LA Times picked up on the recent gang violence in the Mission and was quick to point out that it is a gentrifying neighborhood. “What a contrast!” they say. Nothing new to you guys if you’ve read any Mission Mission comments, I’m sure. However, if lines like this:

On a recent evening, tattooed youth with yoga mats pushed past lines of workers wiring their day’s wages to relatives in Latin America.

strike you as mind-blowing perspective, then by all means read on.

Yardsale is a new locally-produced app that combines the Craigslist buy/sell section, a thrift store, that free pile on the curb, and a third world street stall. That is, you can buy, sell, haggle, give things away, take things for free, and maybe even meet some of your neighbors — all through the comfort of your phone.

Ryan, one of the two guys behind Yardsale, recently contacted us and gave us a sneak peek. Within a couple days, I’d sold a messenger bag in a remarkably non-creepy transaction.

YMFY spotted this sword at the Wells Fargo ATM on Mission and 22nd. He wanted to pick it up and swing it around, but thought better of it. When he returned later, it was gone.

Bummer, dude. The sword of Wells Fargodor only presents itself to those who are truly worthy of low APR and bonus rewards. You missed out.

Just in case you’re unable to get all that deviance out of your system at the Folsom Street Fair this weekend, the afterparty is going down at Public Works this Sunday starting at 3pm and they’re closing down Erie Street to make it a danceteria block party featuring a collaboration of three of San Francisco’s most notorious underground queer collectives: Honey Soundsystem, Hard French, and Some Thing!

However, leave that ball-gag at home because this afterparty also comes complete with a goddamn FOOD COURT!  The fare speaks to either your naughty or nice side:

Mr. Nice, up and coming environmentally sustainable gourmet food truck, will be providing the lighter side of things. 10 flavors of Three Twins Organic Ice Cream and its sausage and hot dogs made exclusively for Mr. Nice by Compass Star Catering. If you’ve been a good boy, maybe you will get one of the limited edition Folsom Frankfurters Mr. Nice is cooking up just for our event!

Bad Cop:

Angry Man Eats is taking all this S&M real serious for its part in the Folsom Deviants Food Court. Armed and ready with its signature ass-kicking Chicken and Waffles. Alongside the regular menu, patrons might need a safe word if they order the “Corporal Punishment Chocolate Waffle.” An Angry Man Liege Waffle on a stick dipped in rich chocolate with black and blue sprinkles on top.

One local business owner offers up his two cents on the topic of recent criminal activity at Valencia Gardens:

Here’s the funny thing, I own New Jack City the vintage throwback clothing store on the corner of 15th and Guerrero, AKA VG’s Territory, and on a daily basis deal with black women of all ages yelling, dudes rolling spliffs, and overall thuggish sh*t going on daily. So “why” you ask did I move into this location? I did it because it still has the heart of what SF was years ago. You need ghetto and richness living together in harmony to sustain a dope environment. Look at NY, LA, Chicago, DC, hell even Miami…all cities mixed with poverty and the rich, and all places Id rather live and own a business, then be stuck in the midwest with no mixed culture.
