Cops on patrol

Build your own parklet annex

Most of you know about Deep, aka Trikeasaurus, and all of you by now have spotted the sweet triceratops parklet in front of his house (the first residential parklet in San Francisco, in fact). Some of you may have noticed the plywood barricade recently erected around Deep’s garage. As I was passing through last night, a friend of Deep’s (pictured) was in the middle of painting this triceratops mural over the street-facing portion.

Apparently, Deep is expanding his parklet back into his driveway, and construction is now underway. As for the mural, the plywood was getting tagged on the regular, so Deep’s buddy figured that a huge thunder lizard mural might be a good way to “keep things clean” until the new parklet expansion is unveiled.

Miracle on 16th Street

Although the Mission seems to be rife with stolen bike news, sometimes the neighborhood’s cycle thieves aren’t always on their A game, as MM’s own Erika found out last night:

Locked bike, went to dinner. Left keys IN THE BIKE LOCK. 2 hours later, bike not stolen. Miracle on 16th Street.

Maybe they thought it was a sting operation?  Although I’ve never done this exactly, one time back when I had a car in the city I left it parked on the Panhandle for a whole week (when you find a parking spot, you DO NOT move it until street sweeping forces you to) with the passenger window wide open.  Miraculously, nothing was disturbed, save for a few twigs and leaves on the seat.

CONTEST: Win tickets to the Bicycle Film Festival screening of your choice

As usual, the Bicycle Film Festival promises to be quite a festival this year. Nora from the fest gives us the rundown:

In addition to some great film screenings at the Victoria Theatre (Bill Cunningham New YorkRed Hook Crit, and With My Own Two Wheels) on Saturday 9/24 we are throwing a huge BFF street party in the heart of the Mission, at Capp between 16th & 17th.

That evening there will be a free Bikes Rock! show featuring HOTTUB, and several parties in and around the Mission throughout the weekend.

There’s also a bike ride led by the one and only Mike Giant. We’ll have flyers for all these other parties after the jump, but first let’s have a look at the Saturday afternoon film programs at the Victoria Theater to which you can win a pair of tickets:

12:30 WOMENS SCREENING BY WOMEN ABOUT WOMEN [more]

2:30 FUN BIKE SHORTS [more]

4:30 WITH MY OWN TWO WHEELS [more]

To win, post a picture of you and your bike on our Facebook wall and indicate which screening you’d like to attend. We’ll pick a winner at random. Contest ends Wednesday at 5pm. Note that you can only choose from the three programs on Saturday afternoon.

Death Burger

Signing the waiver.

Our buddy Zoe (not pictured) had the Death Burger at Dr. Teeth last night:

Zoë: hey
me: yo
Zoë: have you had the death burger at dr. teeth’s yet?
or, mr. teeth
one of those
me: nope
we had a blog post about it though
sort of
yesterday
Zoë: oh really?
it’s insane
me: called “eating the hottest pepper in the world”
Zoë: fucked me up last night
they make you sign a waiver
me: what was it like?
Zoë: well, i got the veggie burger
which is a really loose, meatloafy type patty
they make it there
and it’s covered in this reddish sauce
aka death sauce
and i guess it tastes kind of barbecue-y but i have no idea because it’s just insanely hot
like, it feels more “temperature hot” where you cant really taste anything
anyways, i couldnt finish that thing
the waitress said “a customer got really mad at me yesterday. he said ‘it’s not funny. no really, it’s not funny’ and i said ‘it’s not supposed to be funny’ ”
anyway, i’m never ordering that shit again
but, the rest of the menu looked super legit
we should go!
i saw you on the way home
you were walking from dolores
but i was too deathy to yell at you
me: whoa
yeah i like mr. teeth
so many different ways to get your tots!
Zoë: tot-ally
me: did you take any pics last night?
Zoë: not of food or anything
just of coworkers
oh but one shitty thing
one of the bathrooms was out due to plumbing
but the light was out in the other one
and it was completely dark
i tried doing the cell phone light thing
but people had clearly been peeing all over the place in the darkness
so there were no restrooms working
aka i had to leave
me: dang
quite a night

Now, watch this video Ariel made of Nick Fisher eating chicken fingers with the same gnarly sauce:

Rhea’s feature on Check Please

Here is the clip of Rhea’s on Check Please Bay Area last week in case you missed it:

I really don’t think I’d spoil anything by saying all the reviews were glowing, but there was one new thing I took away from the feature:

It’s pronounced “Ray’s” not “Ray-ah’s”.

Woah.

New Orleans bathroom graffiti encourages sex in the filthiest of loos, and it seems to be working

Gross me out.

(Thanks but no thanks, Lisa.)

New video by Girls shot in SF stars girls you might recognize from around SF

And Girls make no bones about liberally borrowing a bunch of Nor-Cal road trip imagery (and a female lead) from that gorgeous Dominant Legs video from a few weeks back:
