A pair of bold Thursday night robberies

Mission Local delivers the news. First:

The 18-year-old victim was standing [in front of his home] near 26th and Harrison streets when a suspect approached him and choked him from behind. A second suspect took the victim’s phone before both suspects fled on foot.

And then:

The [25-year-old] victim was approached by a knife-wielding suspect near 17th and Shotwell streets. She cut the strap of her purse and took off with it in a 90s two-door gray Honda, according to a police report. [link]

Guerilla chocolate chip cookie advocate hits Albion Street with chocolate chip cookie recipes

Reader Jill S. reports:

Someone went up and down Albion Street and posted various chocolate chip cookie recipes to all of the trees and utility poles. A bit mysterious, but definitely made me smile on a Friday morning. :)

Toyota sandwich

Mission Local came upon this scene just now but doesn’t yet know what happened. [link]

UPDATE: Our own resident vegan Caroline was on the scene!

I was on the scene! Heard an explanation from the guy who caught the person responsible.

In short:
The guy in the white pickup truck creamed the parked Toyota into the phone pole, clipping another nearby parked nearby on the way. He hopped out of the car and booked it on foot, but a 19th street resident watched the whole thing happen from his window and chased down the driver.

He caught the guy as he was getting on the #33 bus, held up the bus driver, and apprised the driver. There happened to be some undercover cops nearby who showed up and caught the driver.

I got there about a half-hour later when the 19th street resident was back on the scene taking a photo of the aftermath as a memento.

(I didn’t have my phone with me or I would have provided more photos of my own.)

Realized this sentence is confusing:
He caught the guy as he was getting on the #33 bus, held up the bus driver, and apprised the driver.

means:
19th st resident caught the hit-and-run driver as he was getting on the #33, and the resident asked the bus driver to stop the bus so the cops could catch the hit-and-run driver.

Hedgehog for dinner

Looks like it’ll be an option at this forthcoming new place Central Kitchen. Eater SF has the scoop:

There were eight people at the first preview dinner at the dough room of Flour + Water. Executive Chef Tom McNaughton and Chef D’Cuisine Michael Gaines served eight official courses with various amuses peppered in. The focus of the new restaurant is Northern California – whatever that means at any given time. They are hyper-focused on seasonality and sourcing local. Many of the ingredients came from the rooftop garden or very close by.

Standout dishes were:

Hedgehog. Egg yolk. Brioche. Horseradish: At first the circulated egg seemed a little dense but then it melted into the other ingredients and the whole thing came together.

Yeah, I can see that. I think I’d like a little egg yolk in my hedgehog. (I could maybe also go for a super hedgehog burrito.) Read on.

Mission Coffee, a Mission-style coffeehouse in Okinawa

My aunt Jane just got back from a lengthy trip to Japan, and she sent along this fun tidbit:

BTW on Okinawa JoJo and I were drawn to a cafe on Kokusai Dori called Mission -  surprised to find out it was started
by a Chinese-Japanese young man who loves the Mission cafes in SF!  He has a beautiful San Marzocco espresso machine
and drip coffee makers just like Blue Bottle!

It’s good to see now we’re exporting more than just our burritos! Thanks, Jane! (Okinawa rules btw, everybody. Hit it up!)

Cookie party!
