Give a Guy Kettle Chips, Get Robbed at Gunpoint

Looks like there is a slight uptick in gunpoint-robberies in the Mission.  Mission Loc@l reports there was a robbery at 2:23 last Thursday morning.  A tipster also tells us this tale from Thursday afternoon:

I got robbed by a dude with a gun at the laundromat at 20th and Guerrero, at around 6 pm.  We were both hanging out at the laundromat for like 45 minutes, me waiting for my stuff to dry and him I guess working up the nerve to rob me. About 15 minutes after I got there he came over and said he was hungry, so I gave him the bag of kettle chips I was eating. He didn’t look or sound very threatening. But what do I know, because about 30 minutes after that he pulled out a gun and told me to put my purse on the table and get on the floor. Like I said, there was no cash or anything valuable in my bag ( which I tried to tell him, but he just threatened to shoot me).

Description of the above robber? “tall, very skinny, sort of hungry/stressed out looking black guy, maybe late twenties?”

Ladies and Gentlemen, We Have a Wiener

Whether you’re a hipster or a bro, a vegan or a carnivore, one thing we all can agree on is that wiener dogs are effin’ awesome!

Dogado 1

If you happened to be at Golden Gate Fields on Saturday, you witnessed quite possibly the cutest racing in history, The Northern California Wiener National Series. Yes, this is a real thing. It’s a dachshund racing championship sponsored by Wienerschnitzel, where local wiener dogs compete for cash prizes and of course, bragging rights.

The wiener…ahem, cough, I mean, winner (sorry guys, I had to do it) was a sprightly pup from Fremont named Jessey. Man oh man was that dog fast!

Dogado 7

The next race is in November, but a representative for the event said that they need to find a location and fast. Methinks our own beloved Dolores Park would make a perfect racetrack for the little guys. Anyone out there willing to help make it go down?

If you can’t get enough wiener dogs, you can see more little friends here.

Wind Knocks Some Shit Down at 25th n' Utah

Wind knocks some shit down!

Looks like some wind FUCKED UP some scaffolding (with a little vehicular collateral damage).

Mission Loc@l has a really long story on it that I didn’t read but I’ll summarize for you here anyways:

  1. It was wicked windy in SF last night.
  2. Some construction crew did not properly secure the scaffolding to the building
  3. Wind knocked over some scaffolding
  4. One of the car owners is really pissed off this happened
  5. The other car owner could not be reached for comment
  6. The people renting the building said they heard a noise and then noticed there was wood everywhere.  ”We were, like, shit!  That doesn’t look right!”
  7. Spelling mistake
  8. A spokeswoman for the construction company apologizes for the incident, blames the wind, says this type of stuff happens a lot in places like Chicago
  9. A visibly still drunk worker mentions that he was out with his friends when he got the call to come pick stuff up
  10. Workers get mad overtime pay
  11. Company + insurance has to replace the vehicles
  12. Profit!

Was I right?

Love and Anarchy

This here is Rhapsody for the Revolution, filmmaker Alexandra MacArthur’s debut short, shot mostly in the Mission. If you like it on the small screen, you might also like it on the big screen at the Victoria Theater tomorrow as part of a competitive shorts competition. Winner gets funding!

Katharine & Ryan Still Got the Goods

Forget all the hoopla about Quince opening up last night.  Who gives a fig when the real phoenix rising is none other than our beloved Katharine and Ryan formerly of Broken Record fame? The two wonder-chefies made their triumphant return to the SF food scene last night as guest chefs at Mission Street Food.  After a short sabbatical and BBQ recon mission, the duo are back kicking ass and taking names.  Everything we had was super delish and we were lucky enough to get some unbelievable bacon palmiers for the road. Score! Look for Kat and Ry’s new restaurant which will be run out of Bruno’s kitchen in about a week or two.  We’re just dying for one of their pulled pork sandwiches! Mmmmmm.

Oh yeah, if you haven’t heard the news already, M.S.F. is now accepting reservations!

Some folks hadn't heard about the new reservation system.

These dudes didn’t know that M.S.F. was taking reservations.

Katherine doin' her thang.

Katharine whippin’ up the good stuff.

We demolished this fried mac & cheese, Japanese dirty rice, & Peanuts soaked in RC cola

Holy cow, these bacon palmiers were amazing!

Dalva Back Room Closing?

dalva

Reader Dervish wrote in with some troubling news:

Dalva bar has closed their hideout. Worse, their not closing it at all, rather their building another bar back there and prohibiting smoking…

As a fan of the Dalva back room (it looks like sexy France!), I hope Dervish has been misinformed.  There’s nothing more enjoyable than showing up early (p.s. they open at 4) and  filling that space with 10-15 of your closest smoker friends.

Just a rumor so far, folks.  Anyone know more?
