El Rio Oyster Party!

Free oysters at El Rio?!  Now I’ve heard everything!

oyster

Yes, it’s true.  Free Tomales Bay oysters every Friday at 5:30 p.m.  Go on and slam back a couple.  Rumor has always had it that oysters are aphrodisiacs, after all – though pervy ole Wikipedia posits we might just all think that cuz of their “soft, moist texture and appearance.”

Get it?  They look like vaginas.

Thanks to Grub Street for the tip.

SF Secrets Tackles SF Animal Care and Control

I’m really digging the new SF Secrets video blog.  The host has one of those great personalities that screams “I do a lot of drugs” or “I’m a little too good with children” and, in a pro-level Borat manner, he always wears the same outfit.  But seriously, up until today, I did not know I could volunteer to play with belligerent, stray alligators and rattlesnakes at 15th and Harrison.  Secret ruined.

Animal Care and Control is San Francisco’s most hardcore pound. They often receive lizards, rattlesnakes, flying squirrels, and not long ago they brought in an alligator found in Lake Merced. Today I received a tour from Rebecca Katz, who is not only the director of the ACC, but she can charm snakes and is rumored to have dated Crocodile Dundee in her early teens.

Where the Wild Things Argh!

where-the-wild-things-are1

This rules.  SFist’s Brock Keeling writes an enthralling review of his experience at the Where the Wild Things Are screening and afterparty (well, the afterparty, at least).  All this hoopla was held as a benefit for 826 Valencia, the Mission nonprofit/pirate store – you know, the place that “makes people feel good via honing the writing skills of those less fortunate.”

I suggest you read this wonderful account in full and throw your head back in smug laughter. Finding more reason to dislike Dave Eggers and appreciate Brock Keeling will make you feel so, so self-satisfied and thoroughly enlightened.   Probably a bit like how Dave Eggers feels himself ALL THE TIME.  Shit-eating grins everywhere!

God, I hope Dave Eggers doesn’t fuck this movie up.  The previews look pretty amazing, no?

I’m certainly not a photography critic, but this is a rad shot.

Did you know that Cha Cha Cha was Mariachi-Free?  Bummer.

This has to be violating some sort of discrimination law.
