One local business owner offers up his two cents on the topic of recent criminal activity at Valencia Gardens:

Here’s the funny thing, I own New Jack City the vintage throwback clothing store on the corner of 15th and Guerrero, AKA VG’s Territory, and on a daily basis deal with black women of all ages yelling, dudes rolling spliffs, and overall thuggish sh*t going on daily. So “why” you ask did I move into this location? I did it because it still has the heart of what SF was years ago. You need ghetto and richness living together in harmony to sustain a dope environment. Look at NY, LA, Chicago, DC, hell even Miami…all cities mixed with poverty and the rich, and all places Id rather live and own a business, then be stuck in the midwest with no mixed culture.

First you arrive and get a drink and sit at a booth with your friends for a bit. Then Primo gets up there (see him?) and spins something that either fries your brain or melts your heart:

And you get up and dance, and you have the time of your life. And that’s what’s great about the slow jams party (AKA Lost & Found) at the Make-Out Room every Tuesday night.

Public Works is growing up so fast!

They’ve hosted literally a ton of epicly memorable events, and worked really hard to become a beloved member of the community. Here are details on the big anniversary bash:

As usual, the Bicycle Film Festival promises to be quite a festival this year. Nora from the fest gives us the rundown:

In addition to some great film screenings at the Victoria Theatre (Bill Cunningham New York, Red Hook Crit, and With My Own Two Wheels) on Saturday 9/24 we are throwing a huge BFF street party in the heart of the Mission, at Capp between 16th & 17th.

That evening there will be a free Bikes Rock! show featuring HOTTUB, and several parties in and around the Mission throughout the weekend.

There’s also a bike ride led by the one and only Mike Giant. We’ll have flyers for all these other parties after the jump, but first let’s have a look at the Saturday afternoon film programs at the Victoria Theater to which you can win a pair of tickets:
