Tech giant Oracle launches guerilla marketing campaign in the Mission

They’re the biggest company in the world, but they still feel the need to keep it street? Curious. I guess if it worked for Microsoft.

Mission Mission’s 5th Anniversary Party!

Sorry for the short notice, but we only had five short years to plan for this thing. Here’s the deal: our first post ever was on February 14, 2007, so we figured we better celebrate somehow, and the nice folks at Dear Mom were kind enough to offer to help out. For the month beginning tomorrow and running through March 14th, they’ll be offering the Mission Mission Anniversary Special, a High Life and a shot of Fernet, for $6. And tomorrow evening we’ll all be there, so come say hi. We’ll probably buy you a drink.

Reading the signs around us

Our ol’ pal Broke Ass Stuart recently discovered a little known supply shop for disco builders here in the neighborhood.

I bet you could get some of those live goldfish shoes. Or maybe I’m thinking of pimp style. There’s a lot of overlap. You’d probably just find a lot of little mirror pieces that you could glue onto things to make disco balls. Good use of space, guys.

And then, days later, I found an equally interesting new business venture, Elf Storage.

Elf Storage

It makes sense when you think about it: you can fit twice the units as regular storage. Plus, outside of the Christmas season, you really only need to keep out the ones who make cookies for you.

Anybody else?

UPDATE: More good, though not local, examples in the comments!

Here’s a picture of a Mission Burger vegan burger

Okay, so it’s not quite as tantalizing a shot as yesterday’s picture of the meat version, but it’s a decent picture of THE BEST VEGGIE BURGER THIS CITY HAS EVER KNOWN. And guess what — it’s making a surprise appearance tonight. Laura over at Vegansaurus has more:

You all know how much we loved the Vegan Mission Burger while it was still around and if you don’t, you can read the insane tale of our mutual love here. I don’t think I’ve written so passionately about anything in my life, and I’m a very sensual person.

Well, TONIGHT, it is back for one night only! Along with drinks and Berlin-style Ping Pong, which we have no clue what it is but Allan from Mission Mission FUCKING LOVES IT so it must be alright.

Can’t wait! Read on.

From a couple years back, in its heyday. Mmm. Now don’t forget, it’s back tonight, for one night only.

There are a hundred people outside who can’t get in to see Lana Del Rey because Amoeba is at capacity – and this guy is browsing the used VHS section

Love your work, guy. Hope you found that copy of Tango and Cash you were looking for.

UPDATE: Some pics of the scene inside.

Mission Minis anniversary party means free cupcakes and libations this Saturday night!

Ezra Furman (formerly of Ezra Furman and the Harpoons) now a solo artist living in the Mission

You might remember Ezra Furman from this song about sunglasses from a few years back. Now he’s a Mission resident, and his solo debut dropped this week.

You can listen to the A-side for free on his website, and you can attend his release show this Saturday night at Hotel Utah.
