LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy Blames SF Weather for His Drummer Being Clothed

“I’m used to there being a partially nude man next to me on stage,” Murphy says, referring to drummer Pat Mahoney’s penchant for short shorts. Last night on Treasure Island, where it was cold as grim death, Mahoney wore jeans, to the chagrin of short-shorts fans the island over.

Nonetheless, LCD Soundsystem destroyed. (They opened with the album opener and closed with the album closer!)

Would You Pick It Up?

An ethical dilemma for a rainy Sunday.  Sure, the owner of the Faggio would obviously prefer finding his scooter upright upon returning, but would you be doing him a disservice by preventing him from knowing that something happened to his ride?  Assume there is no damage–does it matter if he knows?

Wait, what if the owner saw you propping it back up and assumed you knocked it over?!?  Would could you say then?  Have any of you ever gotten into trouble for mistimed altruism?

Confused?  Luckily, it’s Sunday, so you can always go off and see a minister.

Bike Owners and Their Bikes

Jessica over at Mission Local today continues her series spotlighting Mission cyclists and their bikes. Again, the consensus seems to be that bikes are good for transportation. And this guy Johnni brags that he’s never been in an accident. Knock on wood, bro! Read on.

Dolores Park, I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down

With this melancholy motivational poster, artist Zoë Banks articulates what we all know to be an essential Mission truth.

P.S. Dolores Park, you’re perfect, oh please don’t change a thing.

Huge Quantity of LEGOS

Woah, some kid’s mom is pissed at him right now.

But the 9-year-old in me is seriously losing his shit. Are we talking loose LEGOs or full sets? I’m looking to complete my Blacktron collection.

Spider: Art Show & Music Video Shoot – Tonight! (Sat.)

Doc Pop is teaming up with Mission: Comics & Art for an art opening tonight (10/16) from 6-8pm, and while you’re gawking at his art, the Doc will use you for his new music video. Here’s the official explanation:

Beeps and Smudges is the newest album by San Francisco artist/musician Doctor Popular. For the album’s first music video, we are shooting in the gallery at Mission Comics and art, and we’d love to invite you to be an extra!

Doc is creating an entire series of artwork to go along with the show that will be hung in the gallery of Mission Comics for just one weekend. We need folks to come and fill the space between 6 and 8pm. As thanks for helping out, Doc will give art out to everyone who attends. This art will PROBABLY be copies of Doc’s newest 24hr Comic Book “Space” as well as free copies of his new album.

The comic shop is at 3520 20th Street, just West of Mission. Stop by. It’s never a dull time when Doc Pop’s at the wheel.

Here’s a preview of the song, made on an iPhone!

The Old Academy of Science

Remember this place? Everybody’s all gaga about the new one, but I lament that youth of today, on their field trips, won’t get to eat lunch with their buds in that central fountain courtyard.

I remember one of my classmates bought an Aerobie Orbiter at the gift shop, and we all watched in horror as he started flinging it right there in the courtyard. We were sure it’d be on the roof in seconds flat, but somehow it never happened. He managed several epic orbits before a security matron shut him down with a big “NO BOOMERANGS!” We went back to our carrots and juice.

On a later trip, I was a 7th grader, but somehow I’d managed to make friends with our class’ 8th-grade T.A., and I ditched some dumb tour to hang out with her in the courtyard and talk about skateboarding and Primus. That was cool.

(I was cleaning up my desktop just now and found this screenshot I took a few years back.)

Dolores Park Pizza Tossing Champion

I mean, nobody else was in the running really, so he kind of wins by default, right?
