NY Buffalo Wings passing the torch to the next ‘legitimate businessman’

That NY Buffalo Wings place on Valencia that is probably a front for something is apparently for sale! Will you be the next money-laundering operation to occupy the space?

Actually, at $225K, it’s a hell of a lot cheaper and spacious than any house around here. Maybe you could move in, take baths in the industrial-sized sink, and crash in one of those comfy booths? It would be great. You could serve wings at all your dinner parties.

Check out the listing over at Zillow.

The most obvious front in the Mission?

I say it’s a tossup.

(Notable Missionite Andi Mudd is new to Twitter, and she’s already pretty good.)

Fried pickle party

Anyone with the idea to take advantage of one of the nicest evenings of the year by enjoying a relaxing margarita on the Latin American Club patio was in for quite the surprise last night, as a pop up fried pickle party was already in full effect, filling the sidewalk with festive pickled revelers.  At the center of it all was this beige Vanagon (stocked with the most charming mobile kitchen you can imagine) from which exceedingly enticing aromas wafted.

Curious to discover what the fuss was all about, I soon learned that the young woman in charge was offering tempura fried pickles (!!!), so naturally I had to indulge.  Served with spicy garlic aoili and spicy soy sauce (served in a cute little fish bottle), the soft tempura crunch on the outside mingled perfectly with the soft, hot, zesty pickle within.  Garnished with some thin seaweed strips, it made for the perfect snack on a rare warm mid-summer night.

Dalva’s Hideout features Juniperio gin

So glad to see the Hideout supporting our premiere local distillery, which named it’s flagship gin after famous settler and inventor of the Mission, Juniperio Sierria.

Arinell has had enough of the bar closing weekend crowd

It wasn’t that long ago that I predicted the demise of Thrill of the Grill due to Arinell Pizza’s brash extension of hours to 3am on weekends, figuring that the former’s monopoly on the after-hours bar closing crowd was the only thing keeping them in business.  Well, it appears that Arinell has finally had enough of dealing with all those folks who come to the Mission on Fridays and Saturdays and then get wasted before stumbling into the streets at 2am demanding pizza, burritos, and taxi cabs.  I wonder why?

They’ve cleverly rolled back their closing time to 2am on weekends, ceding the late night pizza title to their neighbors to the South, so now they don’t have to deal with that mess as much.  How are they getting away with calling this retreat “extended hours” you ask?  Well, in exchange for that extra hour on weekends, they’re now open till midnight Sunday through Thursday instead of merely 10pm.  While it may be particularly galling the first time you’re denied that delicious, cheesy slice at 2:20 am, I’ll take an extra 2 hours of Arinell the rest of the week over that anytime!

This girl is maintaining a bucket list for her last 60 days in America before her visa expires.

Here is a rad painting of Bill Clinton and a bunch of people eating in front of it.

The Bold Italic compares the city’s Bloody Marys, complete with cross-sectional illustrations. Almost half of them can be found in the Mission, including several past contenders of the Mission Mission Bloody Marython. It makes perfect sense that the city’s most vibrant neighborhood would be responsible for the best in the world’s most complex cocktail.

New York-style burritos now available in the Mission

Reader sinkstuart spotted this NY-inspired burrito at Taqueria Vallarta. The “Manhattan” features carrots, red pepper, broccoli, cauliflower, and zucchini. Zing! This is clearly a subtle jab at New York. Well played, Vallarta.

If this menu is a bit too experimental for you don’t worry, head over to their taco corner for tripas, lengua, and cabeza stewing in their juices. Best damn tacos in town, even if they are $1.75 now.
