Chocolate Cookie War!!!

Building on the success of their last culinary competition, SF Food Wars is hosting another battle for edible dominance.  Chocolate cookies are the weapons of choice this time around, and Jersey Shore provides the inspiration for a Sunday afternoon of fist-bumping cookie clubbing at Mighty on March 21 from 2-5pm.

Tickets go on sale at NOON today and they sell out fast!  Only 200 will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis since SF Food Wars wants everybody to be able to have space to explore all the different cookies without any situations developing.

Ps.  MissionMission will be there too, so stop by and check out our abs, or something.

Hard French @ El Rio This Saturday

Jorge P. sent us a note about the inaugural event for a cool dance/BBQ party he’s throwing at El Rio:

The idea behind the event is that we want to modernize, takeover, revamp, trick out, revive, do up, the Outdoor Afternoon Dance Party Scene in the Mission… We want a party for everyone, a party, where drag queens mingle with lesbians, leather daddy’s soul dance with cholas, sharps share hot dogs with activists, jocks make out with twinks, brown meets white meets purple meets gay guy meets ladies meets q and everyone leaves with excited feelings for the next party.

The party is being Dj’d by Resident DJ newcomers and soul music wizards Dj Carnitas and DJ Brown Amy. They along with the rest of the Hard French crew are our music curators and throughout the summer, promise to bring it! with live bands, guest dj’s, performers and the like. All in the spirit of the maximum that is Mission SOUL Afternoon Dance and Food.

BBQ and Soul music! A bunch of subcultures which I’m not familiar with!! Sounds like a cool way to spend a Saturday. See the flyer for details.

Only thing is, I don’t know what the French have to do with it. Some say that the term “barbecue” comes from the French “barbe à queue, meaning “beard to tail” which sounds like how you would grill a hipster furry. That’s right, I made a crack about cannibalism, hipsters, and furries! If you were offended by all three simultaneously, we’d like to hear from you.

Baja Beer Cowboy

I so wish this had been taken in the Mission.

Taken by Jesse / Beer & Nosh down in San Jose del Cabo, Baja California.

Free Drinks at Coffee Bar!

Go get a cappuccino in the afternoon, tweet a picture of it, get a Chimay on the house for happy hour? Easy peasy. You’re welcome! Link.

Get Window-Shopped by Bi-Rite Creamery Patrons

Have you ever wondered, while waiting in a 25-minute line for your salted caramel and balsamic strawberry cone, whether Studio 3579 sells men’s or women’s clothing?  Well, the answer is neither, since it appears that the work/shop is now being advertised on Craigslist.  Maybe you can convince your Pop$ to front some cash so you can open an edgy gallery at “the gateway to the best microcosm of Mission food in the area”  and “take advantage of the Bi-Rite ice cream line in and hungry masses crowding the sidewalks on their way to Bi-Rite Market, Delfina and Tartine.”  Act now before Forever 21 snatches it up.

Bonus Listing!!! — Got a killer quick eats idea?  Ready to become the next Pal’s Takeaway or Rhea’s Deli and battle for neighborhood sandwich supremacy?  Perhaps you have a really classy sign with which you want to tempt thieves?  Or do you just wish Banh M(a)i would quit messing around with this Twitter silliness and open a damn Vietnamese sandwich place in the Mission?  Well, your dream spot is available for only $20k and $400/month rent.  Sandwich entrepeneur, make me proud!

TCB: "Jay's Cheesesteaks? Yes, bro!"

This is looking like a trendTCB Courier is adding another sandwich spot to it’s free-delivery roster: Jay’s Cheesesteak starting Monday.

I wonder how Philadelphians feel about BBQ seitan cheesesteak sandwiches? Don’t answer that, I don’t actually want to know. I’m sure it’s similar to how they feel about a London “Philly Cheesesteak”:

Even More Mission Pizza . . . This Time on 24th St.

A new culinary endeavor seems to be emerging just down the street between Valencia and Mission, right near the panaderia and that friendly cafe with the bagel special and the tasty OJ.  It offers free delivery, but of what?  Thai food?  Medical supplies?  Further investigation is definitely in order.  Mustering the myriad skills picked up from an upbringing by Columbo, I bravely venture forth and discover:

Super Mario Pizza Wii?

Farina's New Venture to Include Mini Italian Grocery Store?

So says their neighbor-to-be Kiya Babzani of Self Edge:

Farina’s pizzeria will actually be two spaces, one containing a pizzeria and the other containing an Italian foods mini grocery store.

Nice. Now, next time you’re in dire need of a torpedo sub or a tub of pesto and the line at Lucca is too long, bop down the way to Farina.

Tapatio Packets!

Fudgekat asks, “Have you ever seen Tapatio packets?”

I have not, but I would like to see some. Soon. Spilling their guts onto a food item I’m about to consume. Where can I make this happen? (Besides some place in Los Angeles, which is where Fudgekat spotted hers.)

It's Called Antica Pizzeria
