TCB’s Chas Christianson Interview

Yes, bro! You probably recognize this speedy guy from TCB Courier, our favorite bike courier service:

This is the same dude that smoked everyone by 29 minutes at the Mission Mission Alleycat in Oct ’09. Well, check out this great interview with Chas in a recent issue of Fixed Magazine.  In the article, he gets into his origins, winning races, and some of the more unusual deliveries they’ve had to make, including this one:

Someone had to pick up a custom leather order from one of the leather shops, Stormy Leather on Folsom and 5th, all the way out to the infinity tower, the brand new condo, 38th floor. You know, condos that cost multi-million dollars, and we’re delivering custom-made leather straps and things like that.

Taqueria La Vallarta’s All-Day Breakfast Special

7am-10pm! Does it even qualify as a “special” at that point? Maybe I’m just a square. It’s 2011 and Taqueria La Vallarta clearly doesn’t care what my old-fashioned idea of what breakfast is. That’s cool. Don’t mess with brunch, though. That’s sacred.

What’s next, all-day “happy hour” at 24th Street bars? I hope so.

Help Fund Rob Reich’s Circus Bella Allstar Band CD

If you’ve ever seen Rob Reich play accordion with Gaucho at Amnesia on Wednesdays or 1st and 3rd Thursdays at Tartine Bakery, you are well aware of his genius. He’s a brilliant improviser with an impeccable human-jukebox ear. Call out any tune to the guy, seriously. Overworld theme to Super Mario Bros. 2? No problem. Jump by Van Halen? Easy. Not only that, he’ll work it into a solo later in the night just to make you feel special. He’s so good that he’s been muralized in front of Amnesia.

Rob also composes the best original circus music you’ve ever heard for local troupe Circus Bella. After 3 years of performing his compositions at their live events he’s hoping to raise the funds to record a record with the Circus Bella All Star Band, which includes a bunch of amazing local musicians you’ve probably seen around. If you enjoy the music, consider donating to his kickstarter campaign. If you donate $10 you get a digital copy of the record. If you donate $250, hold on to your slide whistle, because you get to be on the record!

Here’s his composition Abigail’s Waltz for arial artist High Flyin’ Abigail Munn:

Here’s the kickstarter page, which contains a cool video of Rob describing the project.

Naked Lady Returns to Homestead, New Naked Lady Security Measures Established

There is hope for humanity after all! Andrea sent us an update on the naked lady painting that was jacked from the Homestead last week:

Through our special bartending investigative methods, we were able to contact the guilty party who had rented the room that Monday night. After a few days, the painting was returned via messenger. We’re happy to have her back and will be taking further methods to assure that all the naked ladies in the bar are permanently secured to the walls. The woman who stole it has been permanently 86′d.

Hear that? Per the new policy, if you’re a lady and you plan on being naked at Homestead, you will be permanently secured to the wall. Keep your clothes on.

Update: I goofed, it’s next Tuesday.

Naked Lady Kidnapped From the Homestead (NSFW)

Not cool. Andrea from Homestead sends us this:

Unfortunately, earlier this week, the Homestead bar lost one of their naked ladies. If you’ve been in the bar, there’s no way that you’ve missed out on the classy decor. These paintings are done by the artist Larry “Vincent” Garrison. The one that was stolen usually lives in the back room, which is mostly for private parties, but has been known to host a crasher or twenty. If you can put this out there, we’d really like to have her back. She is a staple of our establishment.  We do not have an exact picture of the painting that was stolen, but I send this one as an example. It’s the same lady and the same style, but she is sitting down. Thanks for any help you can offer! P.S. No questions asked.

If you see a painting of this babe in some jerk’s apartment, seize it in the name of Homestead. Sure, it will be a pretty awkward bus ride home, but Homestead and all it’s “art appreciating” patrons will thank you later.

Sorry for the second NSFW this weekend, but at least this one is for a good cause.

P.S. Does anyone have a picture of the real painting from the back room? Send it our way and we’ll add it to the post.

Update:

Here’s the painting in question along with a doppleganger. Thanks, Iris!

BART Anniversary Tickets

Cranky Old Mission Guy posted these terrific BART anniversary tickets. They really stepped it up with the 1992 Back to the Future-inspired design. Has anyone seen 2002′s? Also let’s not forget that the 2012 anniversary tickets are right around the corner, if we survive the meteor.

Emily Anne Reed: Mission Contestant On American Idol Tonight

Hey I know you don’t have a TV anymore, but you should find one to use tonight, because we got a homegirl competing on American Idol this evening.

Emily Anne Reed is a local jazz, country, and blues singer who performs regularly at places like Amnesia, the Rite Spot, and Revolution Cafe. If the scene above looks familiar, it’s because it took place at the Mission apartment building on 16th that burned down on August 14th. She lived there. Will this be exploited by the producers and paired with solemn solo piano music for full dramatic effect? Maaaybe.

Here’s the promo spot. Tune in tonight to cheer her on:

Update:

Here’s her audition from last night.

Here’s her

Dress Like Robin Williams… By Buying His Clothes

GayCities reports that Robin Williams recently dropped off a bunch of his old threads at the Mission Thrift Town, so if you’re a husky fella who likes designer clothes by Sergio Amante, Kiki Tanemura, and Romane (I made those up) head on down and own a piece of showbiz history.

Word has it that he also dropped of the tux he wore to the Academy awards while accepting his Oscar for his performance in Toys.

Ok, it’s too easy to poke fun at Rob, but he actually seems like a pretty swell guy. Listen to his interview on the WTF podcast if you’ve got an hour.

Sean Keane on CMT’s ‘Next Big Comic’

Country Music Television, an undeniable authority on the discipline of stand-up comedy, has chosen SF’s own Sean Keane as a contestant! Now, I’m not sure how “country” he really is, but he does have a joke about mullets.

Sean Keane performs every Wednesday at the Dark Room theater on Mission and 18th as part of the Business along with Chris Garcia, who you’re already a fan of. A bunch of us went last week and let me tell you, it’s the best $5 you’ll spend on a Wednesday. Ok, second best.

Here he is doing a bit on the SF Giants:

Vote for him here, because the rest of those contestants don’t even live anywhere near you.
