Most of you know the work of photographer Julie Michelle. MM has been following her I Live Here SF project since the beginning.

Recently Julie’s partner, Lee, had a massive stroke. Well, we all know how quickly medical bills can rack up. Thankfully Lee is on the road to recovery, but it’s a long one and both of their lives will be consumed with the process for a while. To at least be able to help ease some of the financial burden, their friends Tucker and Analise are throwing a fundraiser at the San Francisco Motorcycle Club, located on Folsom near 18th Street, on Sunday, 12/18.

Tucker explains:

We’re hosting a party at the San Francisco Motorcycle Club (shot by Julie Michelle here) on Sunday the 18th from 3:00 to 7:00. There will music, drinks, good people, and a raffle. Donations will be gladly accepted in person, but if you can’t make the event, there is a ChipIn campaign already running here. There is also a Facebook page for the event here.

Now, I know Julie and Lee, and they are two of the most giving, generous people I can imagine. If you can help them out, even a little bit, I would be ever grateful.

This company is trying really hard to make you think of sorbet.

It was kind of an art project, kind of a protest, from a time when citizens were about to vote on whether or not to allow more high-rises to be built. Gravel & Gold today published some pictures and an explanation by the great Tom Wolfe:

This coloring book is the work of 16 artists, and I like what they’ve done. (I haven’t written home about it, you understand, but I like it.) But I also like it for what it illustrates about the problems of social protest graphics. A high percentage of the entries for the show fell in that category, and almost all of them show the artists’ natural instincts (Me!) working at cross purposes with the cause he is lending his talent to. This coloring book was created in support of Alvin Duskin’s campaign to stop the spread of high-rise building in San Francisco (“ecology”). . . But most of the artists were obviously far more intrigued by the graphic possibilities of skyscrapers and Heartless Tycoons than of low-rise buildings and the common man. I’m sure that all children who actually used this hook learned to love skyscrapers and were filled with the ambition to build one, or at least go see a few.

A message circulated by SF Women Against Rape:

There is a serial rapist attacking women near 25th and Potrero. It’s particularly brutal (breaking necks) and he’s doing it in public. Fighting back does not deter him. The police have requested that this not go into the news or posted in flyers as that would lead to him relocating and they’re trying to catch him. So, please spread the word via word of mouth to those who spend time in the neighborhood. He’s doing it around around 4-5am.

And a message from the Fair Oaks Community Coalition:

Today at 6:30 AM, a woman was attacked on 24th Street, and raped around the corner on Fair Oaks Street. The woman has been hospitalized and is under care in San Francisco. The SFPD cordoned off the northwest corner during their investigation, and the fire department was later called to wash blood from the sidewalk. Nancy Deutsch, who lives across the street, found a bloody undergarment in shrubs near her home and gave it to the police, who have classified this as a “very violent crime,” and are giving it their utmost attention.

There were apparently no witnesses, and are no suspects at present – however, in the event that you may have heard or seen something in this area at that time, PLEASE NOTIFY THE POLICE DIRECTLY. Believe it or not, the preferred contact method is not by phone (which ties up the station’s switchboard), but by email or Twitter:

If you haven’t taken care of your holiday shopping yet, what better way than to take a look at some of your favorite local neighborhood businesses tonight as 40 different places from 14th all the way to 26th Street will be showing off their stuff from 5-10pm!  If memory serves from past incarnations, some places will probably be serving (free!) drinks while you shop too!
