There won’t be another one in the Mission until a couple weeks from now, but until then, you get to choose from the two next-best SF neighborhoods: the Lower Haight and the East Bay. First up, ’80s Nite, tonight:

David of course is most famous for being one of the architects of the beautifully designed website you’re currently reading, but he’s also got many other talents. This latest batch of offerings just gives me tickle after tickle, and they’re all available in a wide variety of sizes and colors. David explains:

There are about a million adorable articles of clothing one can buy for one’s baby, but I wanted to do something special for my own son. I put together a few designs inspired by my favorite themes from children’s toys and games. I shared them with some friends and the response was so positive, I’ve decided to put them up for sale.

But don’t worry, there are adult sizes too! Read on for more talk and pics or go straight to the shirt store.

Lost Type is an amazing pay-what-you-want type foundry, also known as the place where that trendy new restaurant got those cool fonts for their menus. They’re also previously known for releasing a font inspired by Mission laundromats.

They’ve just completed Field Trip SF, a four-day reality TV-style trip to San Francisco, where “a handful of Lost Type’s designers [lived] under one roof with a common goal – to create a typeface inspired by San Francisco.”

As it turns out, the designers spent a lot of time in the Mission, developing type inspired by St. Francis Fountain, liquor store signage, that one optometrist/art gallery place on Valencia, and other notable Mission landmarks.

Lost Type plans to release three typefaces produced during Field Trip as a Mission-themed collection in the near future, so get excited, type nerds!

Summer is officially here, and you know what that means, right?  Swimming pools and BBQs!  On the latter note, those talented ladies from RPS are celebrating the arrival of the heat with their first Vietnamese BBQ/grill fest/summer time awesomeness.  It’s going down at Mission Dispatch, the new street food spot on 18th and Bryant.

First OMG the Mish speculated that the big “Hollywood production” being filmed at La Taqueria was possibly “Burrito Justice: The Movie.”

Then Uptown Almanac investigated and found out the shoot was actually a FEMA production, and wondered why.

Finally, Burrito Justice (not the movie) tied everything together, citing a Mission Mission post from waaaay back, involving this still-disturbing image from some sort of official earthquake-preparedness website, circa 2008:

Here’s how, if you’re our pal Abby, you explain to a non-English-speaking acquaintance the finer points of how to have an awesome time in Dolores Park:

I mean, not really. But they’re putting the finishing touches on the new facade and it’s looking more or less like an actual restaurant again. And they said before “June at the latest,” so it could be any day now!

Protip to bands:  One great way to get folks around here to notice your music is to film a great video with a bunch of scenes from San Francisco and, in particular, the Mission (such as my favorite pedestrian overpass, for instance).  Bonus points if the song is actually kind of good!

Looks weird, right? That’s because it’s supposed to be in ALL CAPS but it’s not. Our pal TK of 40 Going On 28 did some digging and came upon a horrible truth:

“In 2009, the city adopted something called the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, which says street signs are harder to read in all capital letters.”

DO YOU REALIZE WHAT THIS MEANS? We will slowly convert citywide to boring, lowercase signs. In fact, we may be the last generation of San Franciscans to enjoy ALL CAPS street signs. I wonder how long before there aren’t any left.
