In case you haven’t heard, some scumbag in an SUV went nuts last night and tried to mow down 4 cyclists in the Mission and Potrero Hill areas. Three of the victims were hospitalized with (thankfully) non-life threatening injuries.

The perp still at large and has been officially condemned by Gavin Newsom:

“I’m proud that San Francisco is one of the bike-friendliest cities in the nation and we work hard to keep our City safe for cyclists and pedestrians every day,” said Mayor Newsom, in a written statement. “Cars and bikes share the road and must coexist. We will not tolerate violence or rage against cyclists or pedestrians.”

The suspect was driving a blue Nissan Rogue, which he crashed into a light post after the rampage. He escaped on foot. If you have any information regarding this asshole, call the anonymous tipline at 415-575-4444 and be careful out there.

Zambaleta started doing these Music Flea Market events last summer and I’m stoked that they are back for the new season. The next one is this Saturday, June 5th at 19th and Florida from 12-5pm

It’s basically a Mission street sale except the items for sale are mostly musical instruments (if you’re a musician, this is the main reason you go to flea markets anyway). In addition, there are other music related items for sale including records and home audio equipment.

Feel free to bring some stuff down to sell on the provided tables or leave items with the coordinators to sell on consignment for the day, for a small percentage. There will be live music and food.

Late start today? Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone you’re still on the internet, as long as you don’t blow my cover.

There’s some cool stuff happening in the park today, so cancel that trip to San Jose. First of all, the Really Really Free Market:

The San Francisco Really Really Free Market (RRFM) meets the Last Saturday of Every Month in Dolores Park near 19th St and Dolores St. (except in the rainy season (Dec, Jan, Feb) we meet at an inside venue) Bring usable items, food, skills and talents to give for the sake of giving.

And Doctor Popular filled us in on his friend, P. Nosa, who will be in the park doing custom embroidery with his solar-powered sewing machine. He’s from Tuscon and only comes out here once a year, so be sure to check him out and bring some article of clothing to modify:

Oddly, the decorator in this case chose to fill it with eastern Buddhist iconography, as if to give a big F.U. to the fact that this was once a place of God. Good thing we’re all a bunch of sodomites so we don’t really care.

Guys, if I hit it big, I promise I’ll buy this castle and convert the first floor into luxury public bathrooms.

Have you found yourself munching on stale chips and too-hot green salsa at Taqueria Cancun 3 times in a week due to lack of a better late night Mission food option?

Next time, check out La Oaxaqueña, the easy-to-miss small bakery on Clarion and Mission. They are open until 2 am (!), it’s rarely crowded, and the food is amazing. The selection is a lot more exotic than what you’ll find at Cancun or Farolito, with papusas, tamales, mole, and even grasshopper.

The banana leaf mole tamale is less than 4 bucks and it’s probably the best tamale I’ve ever had. It’s not just the awesome mole and the well seasoned chicken that does it. The masa (that corn stuff that makes up 70% of a tamale) is so tasty that I find myself scraping all the little bits of it off the folds of the leaf so I don’t waste any.

This is old news to a lot of you, but since eating there at 12:30am Tuesday, I really can’t stop thinking about how thankful I am that they are there.

Probably my favorite bay area band, The California Honeydrops, just got back from touring the Netherlands and are playing at Revolution Cafe tonight. Rev has their alcohol serving privileges restored, for now… so it’s safe to go back.

Go listen to some infectious rhythm and blues, ask them about the Dutch, and try to figure out what those chest-high curvy things are supposed to be used for new parklet installation. The ‘drops drop at 8pm and will be playing ’til 11pm. There’s no cover charge, so be sure to tip.

The reported buyer of the brewer — the #5 suds supplier in the U.S. — is C. Dean Metropoulos, who has made his name managing big-time brands like Bumble Bee Tuna, Vlasic Pickles, Chef Boyardee, Duncan Hines and Ghirardelli Chocolates.

I can’t wait to see the sample recipes that will start showing up on the boxes!
