2011 Pop’s tricycle race recap

Pop’s July 4th Tricycle Race was a blast! Where else can you see Captain America, Batman, a state trooper, a Native American, a topless Mexican wrestler, some random old dude, and Elvis barrel down the sidewalk full-speed and drunkenly collide with stuff? Ok, maybe the Lombard Big Wheel Race… and Bay to Breakers.

Elvis and Raquel (the Native American babe) faced off in the final round, which is good because they had sweet costumes. I wont spoil it for you, but both of them were hella fast. Raquel’s handlebar-leg clearance helped a lot. Genetics are a bitch. Still, somehow Elvis was able to get by with pure technique. Could it be that he actually trained for the event? Is that considered cheating?

See below for the thrilling video of the final match:

How occupied is 680 Valencia?

Just what the fuck is going on here, house on Capp St.?

Won’t you tell us what this is about, oh armpit-smelling-face-tats-sea-captain-banana-pants great one? Just want to make sure this is the right cult for me.

Whimsical escapist video detailing the making of Flour + Water tortellini

Looks good enough to make a multi-billionaire wait an hour in line for, doesn’t it?

NY Buffalo Wings passing the torch to the next ‘legitimate businessman’

That NY Buffalo Wings place on Valencia that is probably a front for something is apparently for sale! Will you be the next money-laundering operation to occupy the space?

Actually, at $225K, it’s a hell of a lot cheaper and spacious than any house around here. Maybe you could move in, take baths in the industrial-sized sink, and crash in one of those comfy booths? It would be great. You could serve wings at all your dinner parties.

Check out the listing over at Zillow.

St. Francis Fountain annex: the Candy Kitchen opens tonight

This may be the significant thing that’s happened to St. Francis Fountain since they moved away from paper straws:

St Francis Fountain recently remodelled the space that used to be the kitchen that made candy for the fountain. They brought back life into the unused space by opening it up for events and to shorten the weekend brunch wait by offering more seating. The space will be available for events like birthdays, music shows, art openings, and to school functions (free of charge for schools)

The new space opens tonight with an art opening featuring terrariums made from unearthed vintage bottles from old overgrown forest dump sites. Check it out from 6-10pm.

First breathtaking shots of Mollusk Surf Shop

YMFY writes, ‘Something amazing is coming to 15th and Valencia…’, and I’m pret-ty sure this is the new incarnation of Mollusk Surf Shop, currently only in the Sunset, opening in the Mission.

Almost makes me want to learn how to surf. But I can’t swim, so I guess I’ll just sit on the beach waxing my board like Rob Schneider in Surf Ninjas.

New York-style burritos now available in the Mission

Reader sinkstuart spotted this NY-inspired burrito at Taqueria Vallarta. The “Manhattan” features carrots, red pepper, broccoli, cauliflower, and zucchini. Zing! This is clearly a subtle jab at New York. Well played, Vallarta.

If this menu is a bit too experimental for you don’t worry, head over to their taco corner for tripas, lengua, and cabeza stewing in their juices. Best damn tacos in town, even if they are $1.75 now.
