Dragonfly Ink Says Goodbye to the Mission

This morning, on my daily walk to BART, I strolled past Dragonfly Ink, as always, on 23rd and Valencia.

This particular morning, I noticed a sign stuck to their windows.  They’re moving!  But would like to keep in touch.

I was amused to find that they had scratched off all the letters in “Dragonfly” on their windows besides “gon.”  Gone!

That shit’s evaporating like this was Back to the Future II.

Good luck in your new home, Dragonfly!  Meanwhile, I’m gonna buy this space and turn it into a milkshake shop.

Free Tropical Fish!

Om nom nom, free tropical fish!!!  Posted on Craigslist this morning!

GET YOURSELF AN MFING PLECOSTOMUS!!!  IT’S FUN TO WATCH THEM EAT A FROZEN BROCCOLI FLOWER, PER WIKIPEDIA!!!!

Available in the Mission, today.

This Just In: Composition Notebook Hats are BACK!

Spotted this dude’s composition hat in the market between 17th and 18th on Mission (next to Cafe Prague) a few nights ago and couldn’t resist getting a snap.  I’m no fashion blogger, but I was into it.

Speaking of that there market, Ariel tells us it’s his all-time favorite, top secret awesomest market, often referred to as “Combover” or “Crackistan.”

Judging by the 28 people standing in line to buy booze that night, I’d say secret’s out, dumb-dumb.

VERY POPULAR Techno Song

I came across this screengrab of a Yahoo! Answers question on fatpita.net and chuckled:

Reminds me of a  great conversation I had with some dude at the Eats Tapes show at the Kitsch Gallery on Saturday.  Said gent explained to me that though the music had slowed for a moment, the DJ would soon pick a specific theme to fixate on and slowly build it faster and louder, until it exploded into a party and we all went crazy dancing.  That’s how techno works.

Oh, and Allan was right.  Eats Tapes are awesome.

Conduit Closing Its Doors

One day you’re in, the next you’re auf.  Unfortunately, we have another restaurant casualty to report this morning.  Per Eater SF, Conduit (14th/Valencia) will be closing it’s doors, “effective immediately.”  Bummer.

On the bright side, reader Gianpaolo spotted kegs being wheeled into the brand new Rosamunde this morning.  Progress!

There's a Custom Bikini Shop in the Mission?!

There is nothing prettier and more fun than a custom bikini shop : Zoe Bikini, 18th and Mission.

Yes, there is!  Zoe Bikini,  found on k.   Per their Yelp page, Zoe’s totally awesome, sometimes pricey.

They supposedly have something for everyone, but I beg to differ.  I can think of ooooone Negative Nancy who just won’t be satisfied:

Yup, just made a Cathy ref.

Live Frogs & Chinese Food

It’s $2.99 for a live frog vs. $1.00 Chinese food.  I’d likely go with the Chinese food; not only is it cheaper, it’s ready for consumption.   Guess you could say I’m not only eager to save some GREEN, I’m also too hungry to wait for some frog to CROAK to eat it.  RIBBETING, right?

Sorry ’bout that.  That was on Mission at Geneva.  From Don’t ask me, I just work here.

Future Hotspot: Thomas D. Harvey Realty

Let’s take a moment to admire local architecture, shall we?

Above is Thomas D. Harvey Realty on Valencia between 21st and 22nd.  The yellow tile and gold accents take my breath away on a regular basis.  My bf and I are planning on getting rich, buying this gem, leaving it untouched, and turning it into a bar.  You’d take your out-of-town friends here and they’d be like “Okay, I don’t get it… Where’s the bar?” and you’d be all, “Ha. This IS the bar.”

See you guys at the Harvey, circa 2k25.

Happy Hot Toddy Day!

It’s National Hot Toddy Day, everybodyyyy!  Per SFoodie, Humphry Slocombe will be celebrating accordingly by offering a special Hot Toddy sundae:

Two scoops of Glenlivet 12 year-old scotch ice cream get a bath of hot honey lemon clove caramel and a sprinkle of candied Meyer lemons.

Jesus.  Those folks never fail to take it to the next level.

Australian Mission Burritos Revealed!

Since putting up the post about Aussie Mission burritos, we’ve been alerted to both the restaurant’s Facebook fan page and the above photos (from here and here, respectively).  The place is called Tuckeria Fresh Mexican, and you can find an in-progress website here.

Looks like they’re hiring, so if you’re looking to move to Brisbane and fancy yourself a burrito expert, by all means, do apply.
